Too many people enter the world of affiliate marketing and find themselves quitting within just a few month’s time.
Sometimes you really can’t blame them but almost every single time they have no one but themselves to blame.
There are a number of reasons why things didn’t go as planned and one of them is simply because they were in the wrong niche, which can be broken down a lot more.
Today I want to go over why your first niche was a complete failure before you even bought your domain as well as what steps are needed so you can move on and actually find success online.
So before you throw in the towel, let’s go over some stuff that will give you a better understanding of what should have been done in the first place.
Did You Pick the Right Niche?
Most people don’t, so don’t beat yourself up for this.
However, there are a few questions you need to ask yourself before you jump into your first niche and the biggest one bing if you are truly passionate about it.
Most get into different niches because “it is profitable” but encounter more problems that play a bigger role in the whole money making process.
I mean, how are you going to build out a niche site on something that you aren’t even interested in?
How are you going to talk about something that you have little to no knowledge about?
I don’t care what anyone tells you about niching down, always go with your passion when picking a niche, especially if it is your first.
You have to worry about learning a whole bunch of other things, so I’m sure you don’t have time to focus on learning how to understand something you just got yourself into, if you are flat out not interested in it.
If this is your problem, now is a great time to go back to the drawing board and figure out what it is that you are really interested in.
Monkey See, Monkey Do
A lot of the time, you will have the right tools and training needed to succeed online but then comes the curiosity and exposure to other “successful” blogs that will have you more confused than when you first started.
What works for someone else might not work for you and that is just brushing the surface.
You haven’t put into consideration how long their sites have been around or if you really understand what their actual niche is.
Whatever the reason may be, don’t copy someone else just because you are seeing them all over the SERPS.
If you are apart of sites like Wealthy Affiliate then continue with the training and ask questions, as there is more than enough help on there to get you to where you want to be.
Follow what the gurus are teaching and you will end up becoming another statistic.
Chasing the Money
“Your niche is not profitable”
That is a very common phrase from the gurus but I actually think that 99% of the topics out there are profitable and is really dependent on one’s monetization knowledge.
When it comes to affiliate marketing, most marketers will focus on just earning a commission selling other people’s products.
There is nothing wrong with this, however as you grow within the online space, you need to understand that there are other ways to monetize a website.
If you get involved with a niche that has no products but can garner thousands of visitors a day, you can absolutely kill it with a nice relationship with an advertising partner.
So if you feel that Adsense is the only way to go when it comes to advertising, you might want to checkout sites like Monumetric or Mediavine as they pay generously just for having your visitors see their ads.
Forget about getting paid per click as they pay per view and I’m sure you can imagine the type of income every view will get you.
Understand the Way We Shop
As humans, we are weird and very much predictable.
We buy things and make decisions with a subconscious mind and as a marketer, this is the type of stuff we need to understand.
Sure you can make some nice commissions when you sell products that cost hundreds or even a couple thousand dollars but that does not mean you should count out products that will only make you a couple dollars here and there.
When it comes to cheaper products, you need to understand that it requires a lot less thinking on making a purchase, which will result in more people buying these products.
With volume alone, you can bet that it will add up to the commissions you would make from a product that costs a lot more money.
So remember this the next time you decide to chase the money.
Cutting Your Losses
I can not stress enough about how your first niche will not always be your last.
And if you’re anything like me, and you don’t have any real interests to begin with, you might have the hardest time deciding on what niche to go with.
If you decided to chase the money and go with a niche that you are not really interested in, now is a great time to switch lanes and get into something you can actually be passionate about.
Don’t get too attached to one niche and don’t think that you wasted any money by purchasing a domain name that you absolutely love.
I have done it many times in the early days of my online marketing career and although I did think of it as a failure at the time, it only took more failing to realize that I was simply just learning.
Lucky for you, you don’t have to do any “failing” as I have laid out a whole post to help point you in the right direction.
Conclusion
Go with your passion.
Always.
And if you feel you have wasted your time with a niche that you couldn’t even write 10 posts about, forget about it and get with something you are really interested in.
At the end of the day, use everything you do from this point on as a learning experience and don’t let it strap you down to the first idea you come up with as there are millions of them to choose from.
I hope this post has given you a better perspective on how the affiliate marketing world can be cruel at times but can probably be a breath of fresh air if you put in the time to understand how everything really works.
