Can you really make a living just from documenting your life and uploading it to your website or social media platforms such as YouTube and Facebook?
Well I’m here to explain exactly how to make money vlogging – the correct way – not the bad/wrong way that you will find many other Internet Marketers trying to tell you.
Even though I’m not a YouTube sensation or anything of the sort, I have been around for a very long time and watched thousands of “big vloggers” truly make a living just from recording their day-to-day lives.
Now I’m here to show you exactly how it needs to be done.
Warning: It won’t be easy.
Know That It’s Not An Overnight Success
Due to the large amount of vloggers trying to make it big in the world of the internet, you need to realize that your competition is huge.
While it’s not going to take you a few months to get big, it is more than likely going to take a couple of years – minimum.
That’s if you are wanting to make enough money to live off of anyway.
Don’t Be All Over the Place
In the world of blogging we need to focus on a niche and stick with it.
In the world of vlogging, it’s done the same exact way.
Try to tackle many different topics at once and you will be all over the place.
If you are going to run a vlog on camping then keep it about that and don’t try to create videos on how to make money online.
Too many people try to take on anything and everything and you will eventually lose your audience that you had the hardest time getting in the first place.
This is one situation in which you DO NOT want to be the jack of all trades.
Focus On One Platform
My recommended platform to make money from vlogging is obviously YouTube. Not just because they are the biggest video sharing website, but there are a lot of people who search for daily vlogs to subscribe to.
I also prefer YouTube for the simple fact that you can begin making money in a fast amount of time (Google Adsense), so there’s no traffic generation, you just need to know how to get SUBSCRIBERS!
Create Killer Content
Of course, getting subscribers is only half the battle.
Your content needs to be great from the get-go, you need to be creating great content that your audience will absolutely LOVE.
You want your subscribers to keep coming back and watching your vlogs over and over again, otherwise you’re going to get lost in the millions (yes, literally millions) of YouTube channels that are trying to make it online.
Be Active And Consistent
You do not need to be active in the first few months, but four vlogs per week is better than just one.
When you get your first 500-1000 subscribers, then you need to start vlogging every single day, because your chances of gaining success will be much higher if you do so.
That’s correct, if you want to make it big, you have to do what your competition won’t do. And that is to upload at least 1 video per day.
Upload Every Day
As mentioned above, the amount of vloggers trying to make it big on YouTube is VERY high.
This is exactly why you need to do something drastic, you need to overtake them and leave them in the dust. And uploading a vlog every single day is one of the best ways to do it.
I’ve seen SO MANY vloggers go from 100,000 subscribers to 1,000,000 in exactly 1 YEAR, just from uploading every day.
The growth rate is crazy fast, which is why you need to do what others will not.
Tell Them To Like And Subscribe
There’s a very good reason why a lot of YouTubers tell you to like their video and subscribe to their channel and I’m going to help you understand what I’m talking about below.
Likes
When you have likes on your video, it tells the YouTube algorithm that people are actually enjoying what your video is about.
The more “likes” you have on that specific video, you’re increasing your chances of landing high up in the search results when people type in keywords, ultimately resulting in more subscribers and money being made.
Subscribe
You’d think it’s your subscribers watching your videos, correct? That is true, but it isn’t entirely correct.
Obviously your subscribers are watching your content. However, there are a large number of viewers who have come from social media and search results.
Your subscribers have shared your video and now it is being watched by their friends.
It is your job to turn them into subscribers as well, which is why many big YouTubers ALWAYS ask their audience to subscribe.
Viewing Time
Another very important metric in the YouTube algorithm, the amount of time spent watching your video!
This is why your content needs to be top notch or people are going to click the back button faster than they clicked your thumbnail.
If most of your viewers are watching your videos to the end, that is clearly a good sign that your content is good and it should be high up in the search results.
So what about the money?
I thought you’d never ask.
Google Adsense
Obviously the easiest way to make money from YouTube videos is Google Adsense. These ads show up at the start of your videos, and when somebody clicks the ad, you get paid.
You get paid pennies for every click, which is why you need thousands of viewers every single day.
You aren’t allowed to tell your audience to click the ads either, it is done on their own free will.
This is still a viable way to make money using YouTube and is actually the easiest, which is why I recommend it.
Merchandise
The more you learn the ropes and know your audience, the more you can experiment with them.
You still need thousands of loyal subscribers that know and trust you before you can make additional income from merchandise.
But this is how the smaller YouTube channels are making enough money to live off of.
Google Adsense doesn’t pay a heck of a lot, so if you want to be a full time vlogger in a much faster time, you need to gain the trust of your audience.
Be yourself in your videos, get personal, and just be exactly how you’d be if you were to talk to one of your friends.
You will connect with your subscribers a lot better and eventually gain that all-important trust as a result.
Content Vs Promotion
ALWAYS remember the 80/20 rule.
This rule applies to many things in life and in this case, it means 80% content and 20% promotion.
Your audience is there to watch your content, as long as you have crazy good videos that people will love, they won’t mind purchasing what you have to offer.
Most of them know you are doing it to create additional income and YouTube doesn’t pay a large amount and your audience know that
Most of them anyway.
So as long as you are being yourself and providing awesome content, they won’t mind supporting you!
My Final Opinion
I totally agree that vlogging is a great way to document your life and get paid in the process, but it is by no means up there with blogging, not IMHO anyway.
Vlogging can take at least 1 and a half years before you gain traction with your subscribers, videos watched, and earning income.
With programs like the Wealthy Affiliate, all it takes is 3-8 months to gain traction.
The best part about it is you don’t have to hold a camera in front of you as you shop at the mall or walk through the main street of town and wonder what the hell you’re doing with your life.
Vlogging is not for everyone and not everyone has that face everyone loves.
At least I don’t. LOL.
That’s my opinion though.
You might enjoy vlogging, or you might not. I’m just offering a great alternative that’s actually working for me and I know will do the same for you.
