Multilevel marketing companies are an ever growing and evolving thing, especially with all the crazy ups and downs that come with trying to generate an income.
Within this review of Partylite, I want to show you the many reasons why you should and/or should not join such a company.
Being a former MLM-er turned affiliate marketer, I can give you a great comparison between the two as not many people understand what they’re really doing besides the fact that “I need a change”.
For those of you who can relate, you might want to read this after this review as I’m sure you can use some motivation in your life.
Now for those of you who are almost set on joining Partylite, let’s get right into things so you don’t waste any time that you might not even have.
What is Partylite?
If you are looking for a MLM that has some longstanding credentials than Partylite may very well be for you.
This is actually one of the most longstanding mulit level marketing companies in the game. The company was founded in 1973, and has since gone on to amass literally billions in revenue.
In terms of MLMs, there are really very few companies out there that can make the same claims.
Right away, this is good news if you are considering becoming an affiliate. The fact that they have been around for going on fifty years now is enough to indicate that they are not a scam, and the fact that they have managed to pull in billions in revenue certainly seems to suggest that people are enjoying what they have to sell.
And who wouldn’t right?
This is a home fragrance and décor company.
The products have mass appeal among circles that are willing to pay high sums for candles and nick knacks.
We will talk about their product line in detail a little bit later, but for now, it is at least safe to say that there is a demand for what they are offering.
In terms of the company background, Partylite is checking all the right boxes.
They have the experience, the revenue (in fact, they are currently the thirty fifth most successful MLM in existence) and they are pretty indisputably not a scam, which is never a given in the world of multilevel marketing.
In other words, so far so good.
But just because a company has a sound foundation ,that doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be worth your while to start working for them.
Let’s now take a look at how one goes about joining Partylite to see if you are still interested.
Getting Started
As is the case with pretty much every MLM out there, it isn’t hard to get started at Partylite.
There are no interviews, or applications. If you want to start up at this company, you are free to do so.
With figures like the ones in the screenshot above, who wouldn’t want in?
The catch?
It costs money to join.
Fees are a pretty standard component of joining an MLM, but they certainly are not anyone’s favorite component.
The good news is that (at least relatively speaking) it is not very expensive to get going. There are a few kits out there that you have the option to choose from.
If you only want to dip your toes into the water of MLM without diving in at a big financial risk you can go for their cheapest package at $30.
This option comes with a few basic samples, as well as all of the information you will need to get started.
On the other hand, if you are hoping to hit the ground running, you can invest in their biggest package, which costs $100, but comes with more products and samples.
This is more or less the sweet spot for MLMs in terms of entry level pricing structures.
While there are certainly some options out there that are cheaper than this, there are also a lot of options out there that are a good deal more expensive.
While $30-100 may not feel awesome, especially if you are on a tighter budget, it’s not going to be an enormous financial risk if it turns out that the world of MLM isn’t for you after all.
Of course, none of this matters at all if the product line is no good, right? Let’s now take a look at what you will be selling if you decide to become a Partylite affiliate.
Partylite Product Line
As mentioned earlier, the product line at Partylite consists mostly of candles and other boutique home décor items.
And we do mean boutique. These aren’t the candles that you are going to find for ninety eight cents at your local superstore. This is premium stuff.
If you come from more humble means (or if you just spend money like a regular human) you may wonder to yourself, who exactly would spend $40 on a candle anyway?
Well, it seems like quite a few people, just like they do with other companies like Scentsy.
Like we said, the revenue that this company generates is pretty incredible.
In its nearly fifty years of business, Partylite has put out a wide range of different fragrances, as well as a wide selection of different types of candles.
Some of them are indeed very pricey, but other, smaller options are a little bit more affordable, coming in at around $15.
One of the chief selling points of their products is that they are all natural.
The wicks and wax are all made from high caliber components (or at least this is what the company says) to ensure that they do not release any toxic chemicals as they burn.
Sounds good right?
A lot of people certainly seem to think so.
Their products seem to be of high quality, and there is certainly a large group of people out there that seem to appreciate them.
Compensation
Compensation at Partylite is pretty par for the course in terms of MLM standards.
You get money two ways: either you sell products and earn a commission of 25% (not amazing, but also nothing to complain about) or, you recruit new people into the company, and earn a fifty percent commission on their first month of sales.
Pretty standard.
Candle parties seem to be the biggest source of sales for this company.
The advertising at the company seems to suggest to potential affiliates that they will be able to make $100 a week just by throwing a single party weekly.
This factors in about $350 in sales estimated for each party.
The problem?
This may work a couple of times, but not fifty two times a year.
Pretty soon you are going to run out of people to invite to your parties, at which point your income stream will end fast.
This seems to be what most affiliate’s at Partylite experience and while it is possible to make a decent living following their sales strategy, it seems that most people don’t.
But that’s how it is with any and every MLM out there.
Is This For You?
When it comes to joining an MLM, you should be into the products you are about to promote.
Most people come in and pretend they love the products when they are at best mediocre, for the sole purpose of recruiting others into the company just so they can make money.
I know that’s every consultant’s goal but if that’s how you are going to go about things, you will not make it in this industry.
With the fact that only 1% of the people in MLM make almost all the money and the rest making less than $100 A YEAR, is another statistic that you should know about before joining.
Now if you just want to talk to people about candles then this can definitely work.
But…
This is not the only way to make a living from home and/or online.
The Alternative
In my early entrepreneur days, I actually thought that MLM was the only way to get out of the rat race.
I would try to learn all the recruiting tactics out there just to come up with a handful of downlines.
That along with sudden closure of doors by some companies, it left me thinking if this is really what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
Build out a business in network marketing just to have it go down the drain was the last thing I wanted and I just knew there had to be another way.
Low and behold, I ran into a fella who was making money through this thing called affiliate marketing and I was immediately intrigued by the idea of selling other people’s products all while earning a commissions.
The $2k he was making a month with that business model (residually), was better than anything I tried to build with MLM and I had to drop what I was doing.
From that point on, I joined a company called the Wealthy Affiliate, got trained on the business, networked with other successful affiliates, and the rest was history.
I have now been working from home for the past four years and I have all my family and friends back on my friends list because I don’t have to introduce them to my latest and greatest business opportunity.
So if you think that MLM is the only way, you might want to see the same exact program that has taught me how to live the laptop lifestyle that most people only dream of.
Other than that, I hope this review of PartyLite has given you a better understanding of how everything works and I hope that you can also make a wiser decision.
Now you tell me, are these candles really worth the time and effort?
Whether you are a rep of PartyLite or not, we would love to hear your answers.
