Let me just start off by saying that I am not against multilevel marketing. As a matter of fact, I would recommend MLM over any other actual job out there, so please refrain from calling me a hater.
However, I have been apart of quite a few multilevel marketing businesses.
Had success with some and completely failed with others.
This post will give you the same exact reasons as to why I think affiliate marketing will ALWAYS beat MLM.
With MLM, You are Not Your Own Boss
Yup, you are not your own boss.
I really can’t stand it when people tell me that they are their own boss because they are apart of some multilevel marketing business.
You are NOT your own boss.
You work for the company you are in and yes you make money for your boss, who just so happens to be the owner.
To top it off, you are also paying the person that got you into the business as well, and then the others that got that person in.
Not with affiliate marketing.
With affiliate marketing, you work completely for yourself.
You decide what products you want to sell, and well, you sell them.
Selling Products
We all know that only a few MLMs actually sell a variety of products and even at that, these are not the best products out there.
When I was in Melaleuca, I got backed up with products like crazy!
Of course I needed to make my points to remain active, so I would order things just because.
The products weren’t the best, which is one of the reasons it was a hard sale to make.
With affiliate marketing, you get to choose whatever it is you want to sell.
All this means is that you get to choose the best products on the market and give people your honest opinions.
You give people what they want and what they were going to buy in the first place.
There is no forcing them or bribing them to buy what you have to offer.
They decide.
The Monthly Fee
You need to pay a monthly fee with MLM or else no one would make the residual income that they claimed you would make in the first place.
With affiliate marketing, you pay for maybe hosting?
Yes you have to buy your domain and have it hosted, but the price for that is a lot less than what I paid to run my bar.
So both of these models have a monthly fee, but again, you pay that with MLM so that everyone in your up-line gets paid.
Affiliate marketing, would be for rent.
Talking to People
I am definitely not antisocial.
As a matter of fact, I am more of the social butterfly.
The things is, my friends and family have heard me talk about the latest and greatest “business” that I joined and I think they are about tired of hearing what I have to say.
In the world of affiliate marketing, you do zero talking to people.
You let your website do the talking, so there is no talking to people.
Ever.
Keeping Your Friends and Family
Back in the day, the people I knew had it in their mind that I was going to pitch some type of product to them.
These days, they’re the ones asking me what I do.
They want to know how I make my money, because they know I’m not going to an actual job.
Truth is, it’s really none of their business.
As a network marketer, you wish that someone would approach you about what you are doing, but of course that’s almost never.
Nothing but Hype
That is exactly what MLM is.
You get people excited and tell them about how great the company is and how you’re doing great with them.
Truth is, a whopping 98% of everyone in ANY MLM are really making close to nothing.
If you’ve been in the business long enough, you’ll know that the person trying to recruit you is most likely making less than $500 a month, even if they claim they’re making life changing income.
More Hype
Hey let’s meet here so all of us can talk about how amazing this opportunity is.
Since Amway has been around, things are still very much similar.
However, things have gotten a lot easier thanks to the world wide web.
Now, you’ll find everyone and their mothers on Facebook talking about how their product is the best thing to ever happen to them.
Gag.
Can people at least be honest?
Geeze!
Wake up and Smell the Coffee
Hey, that reminds me of Vidacup, which is one of the MLM flops I was in.
I say that not to tell you to join me in that company, but because I want you to stop being brainwashed.
You see, multilevel marketing will always have the same business model and they will always use the same type of salesy, pushy type of marketing. .
Affiliate marketing, uses your traditional business model, but everything is done on the World Wide Web.
Nothing better than grabbing customers from the biggest market in the world, making sales, all without talking to a single person.
In the End…
It’s really up to you.
Everyone has their opinions and this is just my two cents.
Network marketers will ALWAYS defend their business as affiliate marketers really don’t care.
So if you have not realized that you are apart of a big brainwashing, then I think you really need to take a step back and look at exactly what you’re in.
Make sure you have that bank account ready to make your monthly payment while you continue to try and get that first downline.
The truth is, you really dictate where you want to be in life, but this is why affiliate marketing will ALWAYS beat multilevel marketing.
Thanks for your time and please do share your thoughts on this very touchy comparison.
Say what you want, good or bad, I don’t care.
Why?
Because I’m an affiliate marketer!

AMEN I couldn’t agree more that’s so true I joined a few direct sales companies myself and I had one close its doors. And I’m just not a big fan of recruiting people to build a business, half the time they drop out. I remember joining a company and the consultant was very informing about the business and answering all my questions and the corporate told me she was the person to sign up under, long and behold once I signed up and paid $139.00 brought business cards tried asking her a few simple questions about business, she acted like she didn’t want to help me she was tellin me to read the training guide, she never ever checked up on me in my 1st 30 days to see how I was doing, and let alone why would I bust my butt to make sales so that she can get a small commission off of me and the company was only giving me 25% on my sales which I realize most direct sales companies offer around that sometimes more I realized I’m not going to make her rich and she doesn’t even call me she left me hangin in th wind I immediately dropped out of the company. So yeah your so right Affiliate Marketing is the way to go, no ones hassles you.
John
That’s usually how it is Earlene, first they want to “help” you and then once you get in, they take you for granted and are too busy trying to get others to join. In the end, it’s either you’re just in this for the money or you’re in it because you joined someone who you felt comfortable with and you don’t want to leave. Anyone can claim that they love the products, but you can find way better products at Wally World if you’re really in it for the products. MLMers an be sleezy and it’s actually really irritating once you understand exactly how things work with them. In the end, there is no comparison with affiliate marketing, no matter what anyone says.
Paulina
Thank you for your point of view, it was very useful!

You’re very welcome Paulina!

Well guys I can only speak from my experience. Melaleuca is the hottest story of today in Auckland New Zealand. Matter of fact, Melaleuca has been around since 1985. And apparently been in NZ since early 2000, But apparently was only in the highlanders of the South Island where the white rich people live in their farmers. Convenient for them to order online and get delivered straight to their door.
But December 31st 2016, Sharlene Lesa was hooked up by her Samoan cousin from USA and she invites her friends and families etc. The rest is history. Cut long story short Sharlene is top in Auckland where most are PI people. She’s now Senior Director 4, Her cheque for the month of May was NZ$64,000, Roll onto June and she get $110,000 last Friday she get $129,000. I joined in on 22nd of May and my cheque awarded in June was $6555.91 My June cheque awarded in July was 18,18472.75, And last Friday I was awarded $28, 839.68 for the little work that I did in July ( I was in Tonga for 2 weeks on my sister in-laws funeral)
Melaleuca’s executives corporate revealed that Auckland NZ has beat all sorts of records worldwide since the company first established 32 years ago. i believe the secret is that we, Pacific people live in communion and its in our culture and reality of life. Its very easy for us to invite our friends, families church and communities not just in NZ or Pacific but all over the world. I already have more than 400 people in less than 3 months joining my little organisation
I think European’s suits affiliates system because they’re individualistic and have not much friends or families like us Polynesian. Im targeting Senior director 2 end of this month so my cheque would be around NZ$ 80,000 awarded next month-September. By December this year Ill definitely surpass Sharlene’s cheque NZ$110,000 when she achieved Senior Director Mine, I’ll be looking forward to something like $150,000. I never dream that I will get this kind of blessing in my lifetime.
Melaleuca is the hottest story in Auckland New Zealand right now. Its definitely, the greatest opportunity that is currently landing in NZ Shores

Great job there Sonasi! Although I still think affiliate marketing is better, I myself am a member of Melaleuca. I do like the products and I do believe it is really the best MLM out there, even if they don’t like to call themselves that. You are with a great company with a lot of history, so definitely build that out. Great job again!
