In my Melaleuca review, I am going to show you what makes this multilevel marketing company a scam (or not), and I will also show you my personal experience.
Although there may be many mixed reviews of Melaleuca, I would like to give you my personal and unbiased opinion of “The Wellness Company”, being that I am actually a former member.
Not only did I join but I quit and gave them another try earlier in the year, so you can bet that I have tried the old company (back in 2010) and the new company, which is what we have in 2018.
Just like every single multilevel marketing company out there, you are going to have some that love every single thing about the company, while there are others that want nothing to do with them.
So rather than being dramatic about anything, I want to give you a few things that will HELP you decide if this is a company you might want to join.
What is Melaleuca?
Melaleuca is a “wellness company” that provides organic based products.
Based in Idaho Falls, the company was started by Frank VanderSloot back in 1984 and is one of the longest running MLM businesses to date.
From supplements and snacks all the way to cleaning supplies and personal care products, Melaleuca is comparable to Amway, which is the first direct sales company that I was actually exposed to back in the 90’s.
Melaleuca is the first MLM that I have ever joined and it was all thanks to just one of their products that created quite a fuss with parents that had children with eczema.
My Melaleuca Journey
I first came across Melaleuca back in 2010 and I joined without even knowing what I was really involved with.
It all started with a call from my other half while I was at work and she said, “I need your credit card.” Of course she wasn’t going to get it that easily, so I asked what it was for. She mentioned this lotion that everyone is talking about that would help with our son’s irritated skin.
He had eczema and Melaleuca’s Renew lotion was the talk of town. She said she needed two hundred bucks and with the penny paying job I had, you can bet that I almost choked. She mentioned something about a business and I knew from that point that she was getting more than just lotion and I actually needed to be there.
I got there and lone behold, the application for an MLM “opportunity”. Being that I had an inner entrepreneur in me, I decided that it would be somewhat of a win/win situation. We get rid of my son’s eczema and we can possibly build a business that will eventually have me quitting my day job.
Things didn’t go as planned as the little win/win situation I thought I found wasn’t what I thought it was.
To make a long story short, I got the lotion and joined the business but none of them worked. I was backed up with products month after month with my bank account constantly getting sucked for $80 every single time. Something had to change so of course I ended up quitting.
I eventually came back because someone told me they changed their products and added a bunch of new stuff.
Now was that enough to keep me around?
Let’s get into the actual review so you can see for yourself.
The Melaleuca Products
Melaleuca focuses on the health and beauty industry and uses organic products. They offer products from household cleaners to skin care and almost everything your household need.
Being that I have a family of 6, I gave their new products a try. I got a nice little bundle that came with a bunch of goodies.
Here’s what I got.
- Some vitamins
- Laundry detergent
- Fabric softener
- Renew lotion
- Toothpaste
- Dish soap
- Bath soaps
- Toilet cleaner
- Glass cleaner
- Tub and tile cleaner
- Granola bars
- Popcorn
- And some beauty products mom
I don’t want to spend too much time on this as I could probably go on and on about it but I’m sure a lot of you looking to join Melaleuca want to know more about the products, so I of course will give you exactly that. You can pick and choose to read what you want but I will go over each of them for the sake of those that are curious about specific products.
I also did a whole other post specifically for Melaleuca products, so you can check that out too as it is more in depth. I do think that the information below is enough, so
Renew Lotion
I had to do this one first because this is the same bottle that got us interested to begin with. Nothing changed from when I got it in 2010 but it is still probably their best product.
Although I have heard it working for a lot of others who had eczema, it didn’t quite do the job for us.
I can agree that it moisturizes the crap out of your skin and I do actually like using it.
Melapower and Melasoft (laundry detergent and fabric softner)
The Melapower detergent wasn’t something I was impressed with but it did improve from when I first tried it. If you have been to any of the Melaleuca workshops their Melapower is one of the products they really promote because of the fact that you use very little compared to your regular laundry detergent.
I like fresh smelling clothes my friend and that little cap doesn’t do it for me. From the bottle, it smells absolutely amazing and even right after you’re done washing and drying. However, the smell goes away pretty fast and you’re left with not so fresh smelling clothes.
I did try using more than the required little cap and not even that helped. On top of that, my clothes were starting to look a bit faded and it also felt as if they were getting weak.
A bottle of each product sits at home and I no longer use them to do my laundry.
Lemon Brite (dish soap)
Not a fan of this product either. It definitely smells great but it didn’t do as good of a job as some good old Dawn dish soap. Like the detergent, I used more thinking that it will help but that didn’t do it either.
When it came to the big jobs and dishes with a bunch of grease, I had to pull some Dawn out to get the results I wanted. Not the best product for cleaning dishes and I wouldn’t recommend it either.
Tooth Polish
Let’s start this one off with a little story that happened back when I first joined the company. Melaleuca has a product called Pain-a-Trate, which is some kind of pain relief cream. Thinking that this was the toothpaste, I started brushing my teeth and immediately spit it out.
Don’t judge.
Now about the real toothpaste or what they like to call tooth polish, let’s just say that I stopped ordering it. The opening of the tube only allows a small amount to be released and that does not do much for your mouth.
There is no minty feeling while you brush and it does not feel like it is doing anything. Sometimes more is less and vise versa but less is definitely not more when it comes to Melaleuca’s Tooth Polish.
Vitamins
As much as I want and probably need to take vitamins, none really seem to work for me and not even Melaleuca’s Vitality pack worked.
I had a bad reaction to one of the pills from their everyday supplement for men deal and I never took it after that. They are also not the cheapest products in their marketplace and just one order of men’s vitamins fulfilled my minimum purchase order to remain a qualified affiliate.
Food
This is actually where I enjoyed the products.
The yogurt granola bars were a lot better than other brands and I did order them regularly. I thought they were going to taste like cardboard but they were surprisingly really good. Probably not something to brag about but I did like the popcorn.
At the end of the day though, the granola bars and the popcorn weren’t enough to keep me around. I did think that I could build a business around the company though as they have a ton of products but this just wasn’t for me.
The Melaleuca Business
This is the main reason why I gave this company another try, even if I don’t like the whole recruiting game.
Although I make my living completely online through affiliate marketing, I did think that this would be a great asset to my overall business.
Just like every other multilevel marketing company you have seen or will see, Melaleuca allows you to make money by simply sharing it with others.
Get someone to join under you and you can make some money. And if they get someone else to join and that other person get someone else to join, then you can have a nice residual income that is paid every month.
Most people look at the MLM business model as a pyramid scheme as that is how it is structured but that isn’t what Melaleuca is about. They have been around for decades and if they were some kind of Ponzi scheme, you can bet that the FTC would’ve stepped in and shut them down.
But that’s not the case and there is a little business that can be created if you do decide to join. The pay varies and is dependent on their compensation plan, so keep that in mind before joining.
The Melaleuca Comp Plan
Melaleuca has a decent compensation plan and they do pay for “multiple levels”. Get Joe to sign Jill and Jill to sign Bill and voila! You are bringing in some money. Repeat the process and you can make more money.
I personally have no problem with the MLM business model but it is not the easiest thing to do. At first, you will be motivated and driven to go out there and recruit, just to realize that things aren’t going as planned. Don’t worry, it happens to about 98% of anyone who tries their luck at MLM.
Melaleuca is a bit different than most companies as they work with a point system. You get rewarded when your downlines (people signed up under you) purchase their own products and the same thing applies when you purchase something. Your up-line (person who signed you up) gets a percentage when you make a purchase which is required every month to get a piece of the pie.
It is really that simple but we all know how complicated the whole breakdown goes so I’ll just leave that out of this review. However, I did think it is a lot more important to understand the type of income that its members are bringing in, so you can check that out below.
Pros & Cons of Melaleuca
Now just like everything in life, there is always going to be the good and bad and the same thing applies with Melaleuca. I am very unbiased but I believe that honesty is always the best policy. Here is what I personally liked and disliked about this company.
Pros:
- Eco friendly products (great for the environment)
- Best product selection compared to any other MLM
- You can still shop without participating in the business
- Decent compensation plan
- Been decades (most MLMs don’t go past 5 years)
- Promote health and wellness
- Great packaging or products
Cons:
- Products are not the greatest
- Requires some serious network marketing skills
If you want to make it with MLM you need to get some network marketing training or you simply won’t make it and that is why I have it listed as a con.
There are some programs that offer some training on that but they usually have some kind of hidden agenda that I don’t agree with but it is available if you would like to sharpen your network marketing skills. I personally like one called My Lead System Pro as they have an affordable plan, so definitely check them out if you would like to learn more.
Now if you aren’t really into the products and you are simply looking for a way to make more money, you might be interested in a program called the Wealthy Affiliate instead. Without any recruiting, I’m sure you’ll appreciate the type of business they teach.
That is the same business I am involved with and the way I was able to quit my day job and work from home full-time. I am a member there and I can help you get started if you’d like so definitely give them a try.

The Price to Join Melaleuca
Just like any multilevel marketer out there, one of the biggest thing when joining a work at home business like Melaleuca, you want to know how much it costs. With Melaleuca’s point system you need to purchase products that total 35 points which always added up to at least$80.
This is what you can expect to be a loyal paying customer of Melaleuca. This gives you a monthly order of the products of your choice as well as the chance to get others to join and shop, which will allow you to make money.
The cost if you want to stay active with Melaleuca – $80 minimum
Training & Support
The community with Melaleuca is just about the same as any other MLM business. You will get support from your up-line if you need any help with mostly anything but there is always support online and through their toll free number as well, which I rarely ever needed.
I had the worst up-line ever and this has happened to me a couple of times as their main focus is on making money, which is not how you should run an MLM business or any business for that matter.
She left me hanging and I would’ve done anything she told me to do but she wasn’t there for me which is the biggest reason why I quit.
If you’re going to sit on your behind then there is no business that is going to work for you.
Period.
Multilevel marketing is one of the hardest businesses to run, but it can make you work from home and make you some money which will be determined by your work ethic.
Is Melaleuca a Scam?
Melaleuca is not a scam and I would still recommend it over any regular job no matter what. With a solid track recode, the amount of time they have been in business, and the fact that they have real products is always going to be a plus for any type of business.
If you believe in something then stick to it and make it work.
Hard work and determination is going to be necessary if you plan to make it with any MLM company so keep that in mind before you commit to anything.
I hope you found my Melaleuca review to be helpful to you in one way or another and if you feel I missed something please let me know in the comments section below.
Final Thoughts
I remember the days when I thought that MLM was the only way out of the rat race until I found out about affiliate marketing. I was never into recruiting others for the sole purpose of making me money and that is what pushed me to find something different.
Thanks to a program called the Wealthy Affiliate, I have been able to work from home for the past 5 years. So if you think that recruiting is the only way to make a living outside of a regular old J-O-B, then you might want to check them out.
And if you do decide to join Melaleuca, don’t let anyone tell you that it won’t work because I believe that with some hard work and dedication, you can make anything work.
If Melaleuca seems like the right business for you, I say go for it.
Besides that, I hope this review served its purpose and has helped you make a smarter decision.
Good luck and thanks for reading!

Summary
Name: Melaleuca
Owner: Frank L. Vandersloot
Founded: 1985
Website: www.melaleuca.com
Price: Auto-ship of at least $80
I think it is a scam. Their products are not worth the price and not any better than you can get at Wal-mart. My sister joined and she is a pain in the butt pushing her products and making very biased claims and manipulating for her own business self interests. I have compared their products and asked her questions and she came back with answers from their so called scientists and lab people and they actually told me lies about their products concerning synthetic vs. natural. The only positive reviews I find for this company are from people who are involved and wanting to sensationalize to make profits. Changed my sis for the worse and making people believe it is a better product than it really is and overprice at that.
This whole post is a scam. It’s click bait disguised as honest criticism.
Ummm, how so James? I have joined Melaleuca not once but twice, so please tell me that this is not HONEST CRITICISM.
I must say that I like that its products are organic and I would like to use some but as for the business part, I don’t like it so much. I was always skeptical about MLM as most people who try to make money with them often end up with empty hands. I am in affiliate marketing and I am very satisfied with that business model instead. I must ask my aunt about Melaleuca, she was promoting them but of course she gave up after some time. With decent products though, you would think that this is an easy sell. I guess the business side of things is a turnoff to others as well.
Yeah it isn’t the easiest business to build but it can still work for about 1% of people who join.
Melaleuca is not a scam, their products are really good and natural. The only problem I have is that they promise you a lot of things and then there is nothing to show for it. Also it’s almost like a pyramid to make money for me, you need to have a lot of people buying for you to make a living in this company. I would be a buyer of the products but the work is something that I personally wouldn’t do.
You can get others to buy from you Claudia and you can make money that way. I mean, that is really how you make money here, so it can be a good way to start a business, IF the products are better than the ones you find at regular old stores.
So it’s basically a MLM? Much the same as any other health based MLM setup out there?
I think you’ve hit the nail right on the head when you mention that the products are not the greatest – 99.9% of the time you can find better products at the store for half the price. This is why MLM marketing is so hard to profit from – people don’t want to pay the inflated prices.
Do you agree with this angle?
I agree but from a business standpoint, it is necessary in order for its members to make any kind of money. Make it cheaper and there goes the decent commissions. But I do agree with you Chris.
Multi level marketing business is a rather tough one. It can work and would make you residual income over a long period of time but to get to the stage whereby you would be making some serious money requires a lot of work. If you can look past the work then you can absolutely see success in this line of business.
Melaleuca seems like most MLM businesses out there and to succeed in it would also require a reasonable amount of work. The pricing is pretty low and is ok for a lot of people to be able to take advantage of. Other MLM companies I know always have more than one pricing plan. Is the $80 the only pricing plan for the Melaleuca MLM company?
$80 is not necessarily a “plan” Jay but rather the average amount you will spend in order to accumulate the 35 points necessary to be an affiliate. There aren’t any actual plans or packages and you are simply required to shop like you would on any other site but this time it’s within Melaleuca’s marketplace.
I was a member of Melaleuca for probably about a year back in 2002. They do have good products I think and I like that they are offering natural alternatives to harsh chemicals. This is important to seek out these days I think for environmental reasons. But like you, I ended up going down a few MLM paths only to realise that the challenges were essentially the same and not the kinds of challenges I actually wanted. So I think in order to escape the rat race, building an online presence is a really good option with blogging and maybe setting up your own e commerce store. There are definitely lots of ways to go and Melaleuca is just one (good) option to try out!
Glad we see things the same way Liz!
I am considering joining. There is nothing wrong with mlm. The only problem is doubt and skepticism will crush you. Wealthy Affiliate can teach you a lot about marketing online but the people who make the most money with it do what? Sign up other affiliates….lol….and that’s why they do reviews so they can suggest you taking a look with their link.
Says who Raymond? It’s actually quite the opposite. The affiliates within WA that promote other products really do make more than those promoting WA. Promoting WA is just an option and a very competitive one at that. You will do a lot better if you built out a site on baby gear rather than the make money from home niche. That is typically what anyone who doesn’t understand affiliate marketing will say so that’s okay. You don’t compare WA to MLM but rather the business model they teach. MLM is MLM and affiliate marketing is affiliate marketing. Make sense Raymond?
I am amazed by the lies in your review and the lies that have been posted here. Melaleuca is a five star A+ rated company who delivers what you order and has integrity and quality. The products are guaranteed 100% satisfaction return guarantee. You can cancel anytime no questions asked. They will never charge your card without your permission. Everything is explained to you up front through the sponsoring leadership. The quality and value for the products are credible and honestly published in catalogs and each person who becomes a preferred member gets their own website does their own ordering. Never sells, resells, stocks products ship products like your comparison Amyway and others like MaryKay, etc. This company has been in business for over 33 years. Has a 96% customer return rate. Only uses high quality, environmentally safe healthy products for people and their families and their pets. Now publish the truth my friends this company is a God loving generous company who prefers to give back to its customers by paying them for being customers, no questions asked for life. Now if you can find a better deal in Walmart or Walgreens go ahead and read the warning lables on the products you are consuming and keep poisoning the water supplies and the earth because that is exactly what the big companies want you to do. Ask yourself when is the last time you went into Walmart and they decided to pay you for shopping at their store. I’ve never seen it myself have you? Stay ignorant by friends, keep posioning yourself and your pets and the world. This is not the world that I want for my children and family so I’m staying a customer of Melaleuca because it is the best offer on earth. We are only on this earth for a short time and why not live life healthier, happier and wealthier. That’s all I have to say. God bless. Oh and PS Melaleuca does have live friendly and helpful customer service where you can speak to a live real person who will help you and answer all of your questions. God bless.
Ummm, I have done an updated review on the products and I’m sorry you didn’t find it. You can see it here and please do leave a comment (a nicer one) on there as I do agree with you.
Back when I was with Melaleuca, that is how it was but they have definitely changed. I am a happy customer now Eva, so don’t worry. lol! Thanks for the valuable information though!
John, you ought to be ashamed of yourself, operating a bait-and-switch site. If you were honest, you would not be offering something other than Melaleuca. Your credibility also goes out the window when you obviously don’t know the definition of an MLM.
Sigh…there always has to be one. I do not run a bait and switch site Bruce and I am honest. I was a member of Melaleuca not once but twice as I did want to be apart of some kind of company that had different products. So don’t you think I could just tell people to join under me so that I can make money from them and others that join under them? That would make it “multilevel” by the way.
What I do is called affiliate marketing and I can promote anything and everything I want to (including Melaleuca). However, I provide honest information and I only share what I know works. What I provide has helped thousands of people understand what they are about to join but I give them alternatives as well. Is that wrong? Does that make me dishonest?
You will only understand if you were involved with the business model, so I do recommend you at the very least see some of the stuff I recommend on my site as I don’t only recommend just one thing. I have tried hundreds of programs and lost thousands of dollars, so I think I know what works and what doesn’t. Not to mention that I have been working from home for almost 5 years now and it is all thanks to the affiliate marketing business model.
But you know what…I think I will explain what that is here, just so you understand what it is that I do for a living and how I am not “baiting and switching” like you claim I am. So here goes.
Affiliate marketing is nothing more than selling other people’s/companies products so that you can earn a commission and that is what my #1 recommended work from home company teaches. They do not teach you to go out there and bash any companies so you can tell them to join their program but rather to build a website on something you are passionate about. For me, I chose several niches and one of them just so happens to be “working from home”.
I usually don’t do this but just so you understand what I am talking about, here are some of my other sites that are all built around the affiliate marketing business mode.
https://thebikr.com
https://mancarry.com
https://homeofficebuilds.com
These are a few of my other sites and they are exactly what I built from one of the programs I recommend on this site. Wealthy Affiliate. On those sites are posts related to the chosen niche and they provide information as well as other RECOMMENDATIONS that I know they will appreciate.
I never said anything bad about Melaleuca and I think giving them a second shot says a lot about them. And if I was to recommend any network marketing business, I think it would be them anyways as they are 10x better than the competition.
Wealthy Affiliate is not about recruiting and strictly about what I mentioned above. Not only is it a great way to make a living from home but it is cheaper to start than any other business out there. Make sense Bruce? I hope this clarifies the misunderstanding that most people get when they see my work as I am not here to talk bad about any company unless they are flat out scams. Thanks for your time and Happy New Year!
Did you say “a five star A+ rated company who delivers what you order”? I don’t think so. If they want to do a back up order while you are too busy to do the ordering, they should have just delivered what you previously ordered because these are the things that you actually needed not delivering or letting you stock something that you don’t need. Not these items will just expire cause you don’t need them. What a waste.
Someone has just approached me about joining this company. They claim to make $1,000 a month.
Currently I am a kangen water distributor. I love helping people with thier health and wealth. With enagic (kangen water company name) we never have to have stock, you can sell or not and always remain a distributor. Plus in my opinion this is the best alkaline water machine out there! The compensation plan is pretty remarkable!
Jacquelyn, can you send me info on the Kangen Opportunity saw this on an ad in my city Atlanta….Thank You emeraldoceans67@gmail.com
We signed up and did a little business signing up a few people in the late 90’s. We don’t have stockpiles of weird stuff around the house. We buy just a few things a month that we actually use. My wife with arthritis issues, swears by Renew. Anyway, we only did a little way back when, but have gotten a monthly check ever since. It’s not much now, but way more than we ever got total from all those MLM’s that we joined and quit.
Yeah I actually just got some of the products to give them a try again “Royal” and I must say that I am very much impressed. I now think Melaleuca is actually the best company to join if anyone is interested in not only buying some really good products, but also to start a business. This is really nothing like I’ve tried before and I’m glad I actually gave them another try. I will actually need to update this review, but you can see my new experience with Melaleuca’s products in this post if you’d like as I have a different opinion on this company.
Hello John, you seem pretty switched on, email me on lei_aloha72@hotmail.com I something super exciting for you to take a look at.
I sent you an email Leialoha.
I just have to post this for all to see before they make the same mistakes I did… Worst financial decision I have ever made. Stay away from Melaleuca! They will give you the run around and will never answer any questions you have. If you contact them through email, they respond with call their office. And if you call the office the automated phone guy will give you some bull excuse as to why they are closed that day. Worst one I got was, “We are temporary closed to allow our associates to attend a business meeting.” Really?! You couldn’t do that before you open like most normal companies do? Not to mention I called several times that same day. I guess the meeting is 8 hours long… Also, the worst part is they somehow got my new debit card information. I purposely left my account updated with my old card that way they couldn’t charge and send me awful products while I was mailing in the membership cancellation form. Well somehow they got it and I’m now charged and stuck with products I don’t want since THEY DON’T ANSWER THEIR PHONES! As to a review on the products? My husband is a nut when it comes to vitamins, and I stupidly didn’t have him look at the ones I got from Melaleuca before I bought them… I have never been so sick in my life. One of their ingredients in the vitamins is used in jet fuel FYI. I thought I did enough research on this company beforehand, but I guess the whole “you can make money” thing just grabbed me in. THIS HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE.
I joined for a $1 yearly membership fee and their vitamins, body wash, lotion, shakes and air freshners are all that I buy because it’s all I use. I might spend $150 a month and was never pressured to sign anyone else up. I’ve mentioned the products to people, they showed an interest and signed up on their own and I get a nice little bonus each month because of it. You also failed to mention watching videos each month to earn loyalty dollars to offset the money you spend. Definitely not a MLM. Sorry you had a bad experience and you can also cancel your membership at any time without penalty.
Jillian,
I hope no one is mislead by your post. I have been a member for 28 years and have never had any complaint or problem with the Melaleuca Company. I have always had great customer service. Their business hours are posted on their web site and I have easily reached them by phone. One time, a detergent bottle had leaked during shipping and they told me to keep that stuff and sent me a whole new order free of charge even though I assured them nothing else was damaged. I had a child with severe eczema and allergies. Of course, I always judiciously check ingredients before I buy anything for her! The Renew lotion worked great at clearing her skin and keeping it clear for the last 16 years. I love the laundry detergent, pre-spot and dishwasher soap. The lip balm is the best on the market (imho). There are many more products I love as well. I buy products each month because we love them, not because I’m trying to make money on someone else’s purchases. Sorry you had a bad experience, but I am very satisfied with this quality company and their products!!
Jillian…
I am sorry you had such a bad experience. I for one have never experienced these issues or have anyone I know of that uses Melaleuca. I believe in their products and the company. I have met many quality people that use their products and refere them. Not to mention the free products given to their customers when a product doesn’t do what it says. I hope you can change your mind
Is there any way to buy this companies products without joining?
I do not want to commit to some ridiculous points scheme …. I just want to buy it’s products with a minimum of fuss. Is that possible?
Yes, you can. The point system is for preferred members. You also don’t have to refer anyone or try to make it a business to use the products for that preferred member status. I highly recommend the preferred membership, though, because then you get discounts that overrun the yearly fee of $20. I purchase once a month for me and my spouse and we find that there are always things that we need due to there being such diversity in what they offer.
If you know someone who uses the products, ask to look online with them. Check out the store and see if it’s something that works for you. It’s really only worth it if you’re replacing products that you already purchase. For me, that’s basic cleaning supplies (only two of us so it doesn’t really happen often), some beauty stuff for me, and sports nutrition items. We also get the Renew lotion, so this review made me giggle a bit, not gonna lie.
Kim yes there is you can be a regular customer and have no requirements.
Hi Kim,
It is possible to just be a customer without having any requirements or minimums to buy. If you would like, I can help you with that.
you can buy their products on Amazon. I was contemplating on doing a trade with a representative with Melaluca…then I did my research and I don’t think I like this company from a consumers point of view. As for the c ompensation plan?? Avon does not make you buy stock just because.
Costs a lot more on Amazon, and those are illegally sold there by people who know they are great products and then boost the cost like crazy. I’ve seen Renew for $55! Unless you buy from the manufacturer directly, you don’t know how old that is, etc. Melaleuca has just-in-time manufacturing so there are no warehouses and everything you get was made within about 3-5 weeks before being shipped. There is No stock or inventory requirement. There are many benefits to being a preferred customer, including qualifying for commissions. But that is never required or even pushed upon customers.
Yes anyone can purchase product. It’s just a higher price if you are not a preferred member so it make sense to just become a memeber. The membership is $19 for a whole year. It is not monthly as the post stated. I think this post is outdated and a lot of things have changed in the company. I have been a member for 4yrs and love it!
Yes you can, you will just pay the full price instead of the discounted member prices. http://www.melaleuca.com
Kim,
I’ve been using their products for five years now and I always find that I need to purchase more than the 35 points (I don’t even pay attention to points anyways) and if you make regular monthly purchases such as laundry, higienne and cleaning products you are pretty much covered. It’s about $65-$75 for me with shipping but I usually spend more for all of our monthly needs. BTW I think I’d spend more at Target or WalMart if I bought the same items every month anyways and I’m only getting what we need. I don’t do it as a business it’s just a way to shop for your household items and know that they aren’t toxic for your family and pets. You can certainly buy their products without joining but members get discounted pricing so if you are going to buy things regularly it makes sense to join and I joined for $1.00. I have more than a dozen family and friends that bug me constantly about getting them things on my account because they love the products but have a fear of commitment so I’ll randomly buy things for them but most of them have come around and realize it’s not the commitment they thought it would be, certainly not as big of a commitment as having a Sams card or a Costco membership. My mother did start to do it as a business, that’s not my cup of tea, and she’s done well with it. She claims she made $70K last year and that’s her only source of income. I don’t know my mom to be a liar so I believe she is doing well with the business side of it but I’m mainly a consumer and couldn’t be happier with the products I buy regularly. Hope that helps.
So the products only last a month?? wow…I buy Mrs Meyers at the grocery store,,only when I need it..A bottle of her all purpose cleaner lasts me 2 months…
Hello there, kerry here and I just wanted to encourage anyone who is interested in the melaleuca products or business to go for it.
I’ve tried many companys products which have been good, but I am glad I stumbled accross melaleuca.
It’s got sensational eco-friendly wellness and household products that you use everyday for the whole family, plus you get 15 % cashback on your total order and up to 50% off retail.
Does your supermarket do this?
Please explain the point system. Why do they force one to spend SO much each month???
Totaling up my cleaning supplies, hair care etc. if I were to buy at one time, for me would be less than $100, and many products last longer than a month.
Spending $50 + s&h adds up…In order to make points, I would have to buy product I don’t even want…I guess I could try and resell the products to get my money back
Hi Rhonda!
No, the products don’t only last a month…at least not all of them! Items that you use daily would, possibly, but cleaners last 3+ months in my house…and we are a family of 8. The peace of mind in knowing that my children can clean with any of these cleaners and not be in harms way with any toxic chemicals was the sale for me. Along with the price of their oils being several $ less than the YL brand I used for 4+ years! Not everyone will see the value in shopping online to avoid purchasing unnecessary items in stores…not everyone worries about harmful chemicals poisoning their families…not everyone wants an opportunity to earn back from the stores they buy from. I’ve earned back more than I’ve spent, so it works for my family. And there are so many products on here that making up points is seriously not a problem. Whether you just want to try something new (which we know we all do in other stores, too!) or just replenishing the medicine cabinet (aspirin, cold meds, etc) there is seriously never an issue with meeting the points in order to get the best pricing! The products are higher quality, so you have to compare pricing to the same quality products to see the great savings you are getting, but cleaner-wise, I will never buy anything BUT the tub-n-tile cleaner for my showers/baths!! Less than $1/bottle cost-wise and no running out of the bathroom to catch my breath before running back in to scrub!! lol!! And if children would happen to inhale/ingest any of these cleaners, they might get a tummy ache, but no need to call Poison Control!! I’m only speaking from 3 months of membership, but $1 for a year membership to try it out is seriously a no-risk deal for you!! If you’re not happy with the products, they WILL give you your money back!! Blessings!
I saw their price comparison on essential oils. I do buy YL oils as a distributor. Anyway I checked it out. They make false claim. For example the page shows their oil, size 5ml at the regular and member price then shows Doterra then YL. The oil bottle they show for YL says it’s 5ml but in reality the bottle shown is the 15ml size. They must have edited the print on the label. It says 5ml in the label but it’s not the correct color label for a 5ml sized bottle. The labels for the bottles they show are white and say Vitality. The price for the 5ml size is lower than their own. The price they’re showing is for YL’s 15ml size. That’s the first thing I looked into because if I was going to buy from them those were the products I would have purchased. When I first saw their member price and then the price they claim is for YL 5ml bottle I thought for one second wow that’s grand! But then I though no way was a little 5ml bottle of peppermint oil that much money as I’ve bought a few. That’s when I looked into it and saw that they present a fake YL label and that is all I need to say NO.
I’ve joined these companies before (under friends or family) and I just do not like the concept. I belong to YL but I am not required to do anything more. To join in I only needed to buy an initial package and they had many to choose from to fit even my very tight budget – under $50 – and the value of products was still more than the cost.
I do not trust marketing plans like this. There’s no way they have their IWN facilities to make all that range of products. Like most others they buy from one manufacturer but have their own labels applied. How do you think store chain sell their items next to brand items? They certainly are not making the products themselves. They just have their own labels and packaging. I’m not sure if the same brand name company makes the product but at a little less quality or more plainly and sell it to stores – not sure how that works – but I’d venture to guess that’s all this companys products are also.
I do buy better quality items where it counts and most are smaller companies and there’s nothing to join or buy regularly.
John,
I would like to know what company you are working for now. You said that you had found one that worked for you.
Thanks
Jason
I actually don’t work for any company now Jason. I do a thing called affiliate marketing, which consists of selling other people’s products online. Unique business model, which has nothing to do with MLM. Read more here to see exactly what I’m talking about.
5 years after quitting Melaleuca, I am finally running out of product! Too jaded to believe in your wealth thang? gold luck on that…
That’s completely fine Gandolina, it’s definitely not for everyone and whether it’s for you or not, it really doesn’t matter. Good luck to you and your never ending products!
Ok it is 2017 people!! This was in 2010. Do you realize how much has changed? If you believe in something why read this review.? First of all it is not $80 it is 35 pts or $55 you have to spend. If you call it a pyramid scheme then how the heck do you help people with ougth them being under you? Your helping you and making very little money. I joined because I’m trying to get my family to go natural and chemical free on a wellness bonus. Where else do you turn to? This company has a lot of products. I have used some and they have been great! Why knock something good?
John is correct. He means after shipping and handling and sales tax. I am a member and my bill is never under $80 after S&H and sales tax no matter how hard I try. Money spent is money spent. You still have to pay the S&H and sales tax, which is a lot. I love some of their products and some are questionable like the ingredients in some of their cleaners like; the dish detergent and MelaMagic(which smells like Lysol Tub and Tile cleaner).
Having just become a member of Melaleuca a short while ago 35 points does come up to at least $80. I don’t think I’ll remain a member for long.
Ex-Member and he can’t even get the Owner’s name right
Are you a member Keri?
Ok, as with ALL pyramid schemes, MLM’s etc., I am going to ask the one big question…….
Why wouldn’t you just sell in stores if the product is so good? You would sell more, you wouldn’t have to pay the thousands of middlemen (suckers that fall for it), you could focus more on production. Hmmmmm… Think about that!
Products sold through brick and mortars would cost more to the consumer, no matter how many sold. The MLM business model is a good one and the full-time 9-5 jobs fading. Most people are going to have to do supplement their income since many industries are hiring part-time employees or contractors to avoid paying medical benefits.
Just curious Pat…if jobs are fading and MLM is the way to go, how would anyone be able to purchase the products without a J-O-B to begin with?
@TJ, clearly you are misinformed. I’ll take a company like Skinny Body care, their products are way over priced, in fact you can buy ALL the same products in Canada at ANY major pharmacy for at least 75% less. I know this because we were going to join and pay in to qualify and realized that the Canadian conversion was way out of wack. So two things are against any marketer trying to make it online with a USA product,
As in what products can you buy the same, but in Canada?
To all of you reviewing TJ has a good point! …I am currently with Meleleuca (recently signed up as a friend has told me about it). However, that is why I came here is because I STILL have my doubts! I even registered and now have a password, and watched an introduction video on it. However, I don’t currently make a lot of money and I have been looking for ways to either supplement my income, or make this my main one! I really am trying to learn as much as I can about this business before I get in to deep, as when I was young (in my late 20s), I was already involved with Avon, and then someone tried to get me to sign up with Usana and a bunch of other things, to where making “stay at home life” was possible!… I am just wary is what I am trying to say. I am cautious but yet I STILL have this hope of being able to be financially free soon, and to be able to help live the life I have always dreamed of!.. I just need that help…that push!
I hope it works out for you Suzel! Have you tried affiliate marketing instead? For some, the recruiting part is not the easiest and with affiliate marketing, you are selling regular old products on Amazon, Ebay, and other sites all while making a commission. It’s an amazing business model that I think you’ll find interesting.
I am trying affliate like NFS through Amazon but I can’t make a sell. Any suggestions?
What’s NFS?
Suzel, I have been with Melaleuca for 5 weeks. It was $1 to join, so virtually no investment. I don’t buy “wish list items”, I only purchase things I previously purchased at Walmart for my home and family ie. toothpaste, floss, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, dish soap, laundry supplies, household cleaners, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, pro-biotics, emergen-c, protein bars, essential oils, vitamins & gum to name a few. The prices are very comparable to Walmart prices and the quality is comparable to Whole Foods. I never struggle meeting the 35 pt. requirement. How can you get in too deep? I’m not investing anything that I don’t l already invest weekly for household and personal consumables. Melaleuca gives me 15% cash back on every purchase and the gave me $100 in Melaleuca cash for watching 27 minutes of product infomercials, also I get monthly coupons if I chose to use them on products I already purchase. If I want to try something new then I make sure my budget allows it. I never stock up on anything. There is nothing to lose. You mentioned the desire to become financially free… It is absolutely possible. In 5 weeks I have referred 11 people (customers) and my first check is $410.00. That is a $200 bonus and $210 in commissions from my first 8 referrals purchases. If my 11 customers + any more I get in August reach sales of $1000 I will get another $400.00 bonus and commissions. in Sept. I can earn a $1000 bonus if I help one of my customers refer 8 of his/her own customers. It is so easy! My coaches have only been with Melaleuca 1 year and they make over $30,000/mo. in bonuses and commissions! There is no selling, no inventory, $19 annual investment. I’ve tried several work at home companies or MLM’s and never made money. My advice…purchase only what you need & plug into your support team…be on every team call, zoom meeting, overview, product call and Voxer if it’s available by your team leaders. If not, you can contact me and I’d be happy to help you grow your business. Don’t try something new, just keep working what you have. It is not going to happen overnight.
Good morning Julie
I hope all is well with you. I signed up for this company about 2 days ago how are the products and is it really profitable?
There are products like this in shops but you pay more because your paying for advertising and shelf space
You actually pay less if you buy it in a store, trust me. OR no affiliate would make a profit.
Because reps like me get bonuses & free stuff!
It’s a shopping club!!!
Put it in stores & defeats the whole purpose.
I wild have to disagree as it is not an MLM and in out business packs it does have the proof by I believe the FDA sating were are in fact not an MLM. I don’t spend an outrageous amount and I make a lot in return as I get to use products I love. I did get sick with one of the pills in the nutriention pack but I hadn’t ate and also have severe acid reflux and haven’t had problems since the 1st time give me energy and feel amazing to stay up literally almost 24/7 with my daughter lol people can’t always go based off ones opinion but their own, they must look into it themselves then maybe give it a try the first month and decide is this for me? Then you will know.
Here is the definition of MLM: A strategy that some direct sales companies use to encourage their existing distributors to recruit new distributors by paying the existing distributors a percentage of their recruits’ sales; the recruits are known as a distributor’s “downline.” Whether MLMs are good or bad is a separate question, but by definition, Melaleuca is, in fact, an MLM.
But if they dont distribute products so how are they distributers dont they just choose to be a customer
Distrute… isn’t that another FANCY word for Deliver?! Anyway, they DO distribute… but they do it like in boxes that the customer buys… I think.
A pyramid scheme is a pyramid scheme regardless of what you name it. You choose to call it Multi-level marketing. I choose to call it snake oil salesman. But, anytime to weight the bottom to pay the top, it’s a pyramid scheme.
So is a regular 9-5 job a pyramid? My boss makes more than me and his boss makes more than him….
said the Melaleuca rep that is trying to get underlings
Said everyone who has a 9-5 J.O.B, you can never make more than your boss and he can’t make more than his/hers, every employment in life is a pyramid when money is involved, so if you don’t put in the efforts and just expect to make a killing, keep dreaming! You have to work smart not hard to make it in MLMs, too often people quit because they fail to put in the work then they blame their up-lines or the company!
Hello John,
Thank you for this review, and thanks to all who have commented. It was very informative. BUT (and I know I’m coming into this late) I wanted to comment about your child’s skin condition. I too have skin problems, or I should say “had”. My simple fix was getting my doctor to check my vitamin A levels and then I started taking a very good quality vitamin A supplement (you DO have to be carefull with V. A as it can be dangerous!) and my skin problems cleared right up. I had tried everything the doctors perscribed and otc products for eczema. If your son still has problems with that today, you may want to try a good quality Vitamin A. I personally use Nature’s Plus brand as they have a proven absorbability rate (and you don’t have to join a MLM to get it!!! LOL).
Lol, Thanks for the info Leslie! My son outgrew it when he was like 3 or something but this is still really helpful, so thanks for that.
I’ve had a lady bugging me nonstop about joining, she’s been telling me all I’ll have to do is send ppl a text or call and set them up an appt with a trainer or team leader and supposedly that’s all I do and will get paid $17.50 for every yes I get? But your review said nothing of the sort lol so trying to find out if she’s even telling the truth as it sounds like she isn’t….plus her persistence after I’ve told her I’m not interested is already a red flag in my book.
Unfortunately it doesn’t work that way and even if it were a good product, that lady just has poor marketing skills and really makes the company look bad by sounding so desperate. Now in order to get that $17.50 for every yes, they need to remain a paying customer or that yes will not pay you anymore.
I have been a Melaleuca customer for 6+ years. The products are the business and that’s why people keep buying these products month after month, year after year .. they are the best products on the market (bar none) and most of them cost less than what you can buy elsewhere (of course, I am talking about products of equal value – which is almost impossible to find anywhere, since they have carefully-developed products that are proven to work). Sure I can find detergent or shampoo which cost less but don’t work nearly as well and have harmful side effects over time and also are far from being environmentally-friendly. Our health has improved so much that I will never go to the store and buy chemically-filled products again. If people complain about the price of these products, they are putting a price on their health .. I realize that these products are very cost-effective, especially when I used to purchase supplements at the health food store that cost much more and didn’t work at all. As far as the business side goes .. many people like to call it an MLM .. but that seems to be because they don’t have good work ethics. Melaleuca has always told us that hard work and persistence are what we need to build a business here and the person who does the most work is paid the most .. not like MLM’s, where the people at the top are the only ones who can make money. The people at the top in Melaleuca have worked hard for what they are earning. Melaleuca compensates people well .. but it does require work so let’s roll up our sleeves!
Thanks for sharing Heather. I do want to give these products a try again, so can you please send me more information? Thanks!
As a current rep. I can tell you you can make money and that the products (they have coffee now! great coffee!) and awesome. We truly love them and feel great using them around our kids and animals! feel free to take a look http://www.melaleuca.info/gregporter/about?culture=en-CA
Okay now I’m interested. I’ll check that out and let you know what I think. Thanks for sharing Amanda!

Thank you Heather! I just joined Melaleuca a short week ago….regardless, anything and everything we put onto or into our bodies is worth the extra money and effort! I guess everyone has different priorities when it comes to their health and lifestyle!!! Have a awesome day!?
Hi Heather…I was relieved when I read your reply because I was amazed at all the inaccurate assessments that were being made about Melaleuca. They clearly don’t have the facts. It amazes me that people can be so clueless about something and feel the need to make numerous uneducated comments about it. No wonder they failed! I am 100% on board with you…ten years! I am making money and I am going to continue helping other people to do the same thing. It is a very gratifying business! I love it! I feel sorry for the various MLMs out there that are going to have a harder time making it because of the recent rulings about how they are permitted to conduct their businesses. Thank God, we are not an MLM! Good luck to you!
Can you explain how Melaleuca is NOT MLM?
Perhaps this will help John…http://www.idahofallsmagazine.com/2014/12/demystifying-melaleuca#.VNJ133Bx9gV.facebook.
I’ve been a member now for 6 months. I was skeptical at first when I was introduced but now I’m on board as well. I want to make a difference in my life and the lives I touch. You have nothing to lose and so much to gain.
Okay, can someone please tell me what’s so new about Melaleuca? Is that $1 deal still going on and what was that even about. I really want to give the products a try, but no one seems to want to get me to join, lol. Oh and does anyone get paid if I signup under them since there are many of you claiming that this isn’t MLM?
I have been a Melaleuca preferred customer for almost 2 years now and love it! I was on 5 allergy pills a day and now down to just taking one usually on the days I work because I can’t control what I’m around there. I don’t understand how people say they’re getting “backed up with products.” You simply buy what you would normally from Wal-Mart/Target. We all use soap, shampoo, etc. every month. The only way you get a backup is if you don’t order. I never forgot to go to Wal-Mart for those things so I don’t forget to shop for them this way. It’s easier, from my home! I share occasionally but if I never share again, we will continue to shop Mela!
Yeah I used to get backed up because I never finished what I ordered in one month and I do shower a lot, lol. I’m sure they’ve improved, but how long have you been with these guys? I was with them in like 2010 or something.
There is 440 products now even tea and coffee if you ordered different products every month it would take you years to try everything with only doing 35 points per month.
For those saying they love the smell of other detergents do you realize that smell is from harmful chemicals you are breathing and absorbing into your skin by wearing those chemicals. Is that worth smelling something nice? Their stain remover is the best ive ever used. It removed a white shirt covered in blood with no after stains at all. Also their probiotic is the same as Align for half the cost. It works amazing. But keep putting all those cheaper chemicals on you since your money is more important than your health!
so if the products are so great then to become a member why is it you got to toss them your credit card info to become a member before you even know a thing about them? Scam or good company why they need your card or banking info before you even purchase anything? i have been scammed several times by tossing my card info out to places/ppl that seemed a wise investment.
Hey my friend! I have some insights about it all, we are putting a team together and will be helping those interested in joining. We thought it was bad too, but now we know. So for anyone that wants on our team we will help you!
Frank is in it for only the money. He flew up to Cocolalla, Idaho one 4th of July in his jet, which was paid for by people like me that was forced to buy products you don’t need.He brought his office staff with him, and he acted like he was just this great man for bringing his office staff with him. I started using the products because I was taking care of Frank’s mom at the time. I was one of the caregiver’s. After Margaret past away I started up an all-natural house cleaning company. advertising that I use Melaleuca to keep their homes organically clean. Eight months into my business I was contacted by Frank’s attorney telling me that if I didn’t stop using the name Melaleuca immediately they would sue me. They don’t own the fricking word Melaleuca but this is the kind of crap they pulled on me. It is all about making money and they could care less rather you can afford to spend that extra $80.00 a month. This is no reflection on Frank’s sister and brother-in-law, because they are decent caring people. I hate that company and I will tell my story to anyone who wants to listen. Just for the record,,I told that company to go screw themselves and cancelled my membership right then and there. I have not bought the products for 8 years, and believe it or not I still have bottles of polish and shower cleaner left in my closet. I poured it all out and used the bottles to make up my own cleaning supplies.
So, if your thinking of going with them you need to think again.
That’s crazy Starla. So you know the owner personally?
So much misinformation in this article! You can’t use the Melaleuca name because they are protecting the customers who choose to build the business. I’m sorry Starla didn’t know the rules before getting herself in a situation. It is NOT MLM. It is Consumer Direct Marketing. There is no monthly auto ship. You can choose to be a preferred customer and agree to do 35 Points a month. This gets you big savings over just being a regular customer. You can quit anytime. There is a 100% guarantee on all products. I am a very happy customer and have been treated wonderfully and fairly by Melaleuca. They have the best customer service in the business. They answer the phone with no wait time and the real people that work there are super nice and knowledgeable. The author of this article didn’t get anything right… Not even the owners name. MLM? False. $80 requirement and contracts? False. Hard to quit or leave? False.
Lol, I am the one who wrote this article Michael and I was a member. You have to understand that things do change and I’m sure they have made MANY changes since I was in because it was exactly how I explain it in this article. So yes, the author got EVERYTHING right and that is because I was in it. Many moons ago, but I was in. Maybe you can help us, by giving us some new information?
I order 35 points per month, which I just ordered and only spent $49.76. On thing that’s I use daily. Laundry detergent, fabric softener, dryer sheets. I have those things set up as my back up order in case I forget to order. I have a family of 6 and suffer from ptsd. I don’t like to go out sip shopping online is great for me. Things do change. I was worth the company in 2004 and am back because 1) I love the product. 2) they have changed so many things.
Iam a current member and everything u listed is not how it is now!!!!
I started last Sunday and it’s Tuesday (I have 8 people enrolled already!)
You don’t have to spend $80 a mth any more!!!!!! It’s $50-$70 depending what u get!!!!! (I spend $57 and I get 35 points!!!!!!!) canceling is not hard!!!!!!!! The customer service is not rude!!!!! My leader in my home town made $35 her first mth 2nd mth made $1,000 3rd mth almost $4,000 ( people get real! U don’t get rich over night!!!!!!!!!) her leader in the same home town as us made $16,000 her leaders above her in our same home town made $45,000 this is all with in 6mths! So their compensation plan is AMAZING!!!!! Their products are not expensive!!!!!! I can buy a $6 bottle of cleaner and get about (filling the bottle up) 15 uses (it all comes consintradted so u have to dilute it according to measurements) Clorox u can’t do that with!!! Your “article” needs to be updated good lord!!!! We don’t sell products!!!!! We don’t scam u!!!!! If your not making money then u probably aren’t busting your butt to even try and make $!!!! That is what’s wrong with this world!!!!!! Nothing in life is free!!!!!! Yes we have a promo right now till the 15th of this mth may 15th, 2017 for $1 that’s one dollar!!!!!! After that it’s $19.99 it’s our ANNUAL fee that means once a year!!!!!!! We have a sams club(grocery story) in Texas in order to shop there u have to pay a MONTHLY fee in order to shop there!!!! Why in the world would I pay a mthly fee when I can just pay an ANNUAL fee (every year) TO GEOCERY SHOP ONLINE PEOPLE!!!! U have to pay a mthly fee to work out, grocery shop, iCloud storage, bills!!!!!! ITS LIFE!!!!! nothing is free to sign up!!!!!! Like I said if u didn’t make $ that’s your fault for not trying harder there are ways and WONDERFUL PEOPLE to help you get there!!!!! I’m sorry but this ridiculous “artical” is very up setting!!!!
AND WE KEEP PRIVATE SO WE DONT GET “CATEGORIZED” LIKE OTHER P.S. “want to make $500 in a week” “ask me how u can make $ right now” oh if I buy this at a discounted price and then sell it full price u get $” WE DO NOTHING LIKE THAT!!!!! So that’s why we are so hush hush about it!!!! All that stuff is STUPID AND FAKE!!!!!!!! Melaleuca is not fake!!!!! And their products are AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE MY TEAM WE ARE ALL MAKING $ AND ENJOYING THE PRODUCTS THAT WE USE EVERY MTH!!!!!!! ?
You can quit anytime…. that’s the line I was fed too. So I contacted them to quit. They emailed me the form to print , fill out and sign and send back. So I did. Then magically, their email continues to reject my email for a week and a half. I read online that LOTS of people are given the run around when trying to cancel and its a complete nightmare and not surprised. So I contacted them again and they told me my email is broken. I sent it from 3 separate emails and it was rejected. All other emails I have sent have gone through. So then she goes “Well, then you need to check the spelling because there’s nothing wrong with our email.” Nope, spelling is correct according to the operator and the website.
So I cancelled the card they were going to charge because that’s what the hundreds of reviews online from people with the same complaint as me ended up having to do… they sent me an email saying they couldn’t charge me but sent the package anyway. Who does that? You dont have your money, my account is supposed to be noted not to send and yet you still send it. So I call again, get a huge attitude from the operator who tells me I can pay and keep it or send it back at my expense. I am faxing the form now (The amount of time I have put in to trying to cancel is really turning in to a hobby more than a quick errand. We don’t all have printers, scanners and fax machines in our homes.) I am supposed to pay shipping to mail it back to them now when I get it….
Don’t get sucked in.. I was fed so much misinformation and so much was omitted when I was signed up that I found out about after that I will NEVER use a product from this company and won’t recommend it either.
Thank you for your post – yes have a friend who constantly talks about it (I call it puking on me), anyway – she denies up and down it is NOT a MLM – then why would she cares where I shop – she continues to tell me I should be buying these products – time to sever the relationship…….
Sounds real fishy, were you drunk when you posted this because you sure did contradict yourself!
You stated their products are organic. They are not all organic..you said chemical free-there are chemicals in the product, they just mean no harmful chemicals, although they are getting careless with fragrances that break a lot of people out. I can unroll u from Melaleuca in less than 1 minute. It is easy to get out. Their products are highly concentrated. One little bottle makes a ton of product. Less packaging, less storage space, less shipping water-as we all have our own running water, hopefully. The owner’s name is for sure Frank. I can enroll shopper’s free. I don’t wait for specials. Oh, by the way, u said that Sam’s Club Charges by the month for the club? U said Melaleuca charges by the year, but Sam’s does give a yearly charge, just as Melaleuca does. If u pay 12 separate months of fees, and u pay one yearly payment, how is that any different? Just wondering the thought process behind that? Also, the woman describing how the product cures her illness-you can’t do that. They are out to make money like any other product.
I love some of the products, have never had a problem getting the wrong products, except once I got the non HE detergent and I am still not sure if it is my fault or theirs, that said, a quick email and they sent the right one at no cost to me and didn’t ask for the other back. I love the Sol U Mel. LOVE it. I like some of their makeup but not most. I love their shampoos, especially the kids. I am not sure why your child’s eczema wasn’t helped by the Renew lotion, it was literally the only thing that did work for my child’s sever eczema…so I guess as with absolutely everything in life, it doesn’t always work for everyone all the time. Shocking, I know. Sorry it didn’t work for you, but it has changed my son’s life. I love the tea tree oils and that they have added other essential oils though I am curious as to their concentration and purity compared to Young Living’s.
I don’t do it for the business. I do it for the products. The thing I HATE about it, is the 37 point minimum a month, which roughly ends up being about $80. That part sucks, because guess what? You sell concentrate products therefore they aren’t used as quickly… so what exactly do I need to order all the time? I know, they want you to literally replace EVERYTHING with their products, down to band-aides. I don’t think they have magic band-aides, so I get what I need when I need at at Walgreens, etc.
If I could change anything it would be that stupid monthly minimum. Its an archaic way of doing it and that is what makes people quit. They should have a buy $100 a year type thing to stay current.
Its only MLM if you want it to be. otherwise its an online wellness store you buy from, and kinda are forced to monthly to maintain membership.
But that is my only complaint. I have very sensitive skin and my kids have eczema so this line works well for us, and I also want to minimize chemicals added to products and hormone disruptors etc. in my products. They pitched it that your kid could drink the cleaner and not die.. lol. I don’t care, they ain’t drinking it. I was disappointed to find SLS in some products, but not all. I dont’ think they are as natural as they claim to be, and have moved over to using more Young LIving products because they ARE very natural (their cleaner is amazing).
So, sell it if you want, use it if you want… I think its best to find a friend, or two, that also like it, and share the membership to ensure an easy 37 points accumulation each month.
Like your points, positively expressed!
my family was searching for Form cbt 200 tc several days ago and was made aware of an excellent service with a ton of fillable forms . If people are looking for Form cbt 200 tc too , here’s a
https://goo.gl/MV8rm3
The products are decent but expensive. The laundry detergent made no sense, a small bottle for 10 dollars and you are asked to use just a small quantity per load. Anyway my wife signed up for it against my advice and now she asked me to help her cancel. I was uncomfortable with the number of hoops I had to go through to cancel. I had to visit a link on the website that sent me to a second link that sent me an email with a link. The email link took me to a webpage where I had to fill a form and you are asked to click several boxes to acknowledge several benefits I would lose if I cancel my membership. After feeling the form, I am sent to a printable webpage that I had to print out, sign and fax back to the company. All this to cancel a membership of a company. It might be legitimate but clearly they want to make it as difficult as possible to cancel your membership. On a site that is on the internet, all it should take is one click to cancel your membership. There is no excuse to have to go through all these steps to cancel my membership.
I agree with you Osas. What sucks is that if people are going to quit, they are going to quit no matter how complicated they make it. This is just really forcing people to get further away and also leave a bad taste in their mouth. So when they go around talking about the company, it’s most likely going to be really bad. Sorry to hear about your complicated cancel your membership adventure, but do know that I have had that problem in a couple of MLMs that I was apart of. I hope things are going better for you these days and I’m just curious…What detergent do you use? lol!
I wish you luck. I have been trying to cancel for 2 weeks. I have sent back everything they asked and they keep rejecting my emails and saying my fax didn’t go through..
I cancelled the card so they couldn’t charge me but they sent the package anyway. They want me to mail it back at my expense because of their bad business practices. Its just sad and ridiculous.
You are right, it leaves a terrible taste in your mouth for this company.
If u are still having trouble getting your account closed, get back to me and I can do it in 60 seconds! It is easy! The person that enrolled you can also help u. Good luck!
thank u for this – my friend told me its only 1 dollar to join – yup – I know the cancellation process will be hell……so not going to join ! U saved me !!!
$1? That’s just crazy! lol.
March and April membership is only $1 and if you sign up now its only $1 annually. After April its only $19. Cheaper than 2004 when I joined
I’m interested Lisa, so please send me a message through our contact page and give me more details please. I was with the company baaaaack in the day and I want to test them out again. Thanks!
Someone is telling me that right now – just $1/year and nothing to sell. Is that true?
Yes it is, they are also offering the eco sense cleaning pack free when you enroll 🙂
Can I get more info Dayna?
Many years ago we joined Melaleuca Co. The products were very good. Especially the tea tree oil and energy bars, but the original bars to prevent lactic acid were like chewing hay. They fixed that. The teas toothpaste, furniture polish were wonderful. 35vpoints were about 40.00 dollars a month. Products were shipped to customers. You did not have stuff sent to you to distribute. You would call in orders for customers and they would send it to them. The original cost to join as member was expensive. But the products were very good. I still use tea tree oil, and recommend it to many people. So if you want to work hard and visit people to sign up your eight members and know that this Co. Will stand by their products then Melaleuca is for you. Thanks Carla
I agree Carla. I gave them another try and I am very much pleased with what they have to offer. If anyone is looking for great products and maybe even to do some network marketing, I think Melaleuca is the best one out there. I personally do affiliate marketing full-time as I’m not into recruiting, but with Melaleuca, I think the products sell themselves. Definitely a recommended company and I’ve only gotten my first order. What to buy next…hmmm…
I don’t know if their products are as good as advertised. The one thing that bugs me, however, is the tricky way they have set up for membership cancellation. I am a student on a budget, and I have been trying to cancel my membership for the past three months, but in order to do so you have to be current on your account. I keep telling them, over the phone and by email, not to send me any order, but that’s to no avail. They keep sending me products and my bank pays the invoices under my overdraft protection. I tried again today, and sure enough there was another invoice waiting for me. That’s the catch. There is always an invoice waiting for you out there, and if you don’t move fast enough they will get you. The best move, in my opinion, is not to get involved with them in the first place. After all, if you have $80.00 to spend, every month, on their “Power Pak,” which must be some fancily packaged multivitamins, it may serve you better to go to Costco and buy something along that line, and save some money in the process.
Did you bother to read the cancellation policy on your customer agreement or on the website?? You have to sign the cancellation form and either fax or scan and email it in to the company. You can’t just call or email them that you want to cancel! How can they verify that it’s really YOU?? If you send that signed form in, it will be done IMMEDIATELY!
I just love how people seem to blame everyone and everything else for their own inadequacy! This is ‘operator error’ my dear…:-)
And you won’t find better products at these prices anywhere….
Hey Betty can you send me more info on the products?
Give me a call or text 5599094548. I can provide further information!
Why do u keep asking people for more info if your going to bash it?!?!?!?!? U are a character!!!!! ????????????
Team melaleuca!!!!!!!!!!!!! ???????
I didn’t get a cancellation policy. So not everyone can do it the way you think.
Betty have you ever personally cancelled?
The products are great and customer service is always great. I tried the business and it work if people are not looking for get rich quick. I didn’t do good at the business but that’s something thats a personal chioce . I love using the products and see how good they work. My granddaughter age two love using the gold bar and renew lotion her skin is so smooth. I think the people writing and complaining are from other companies or never used products. I found I can use products for multiple things which saves money. Member sense 2007. I still get a check every month for the customers I signed up years ago Scam it’s Not. The customer I signed that left the company didn’t have a problem leaving the because they knew how to follow instructions and every company has that. Melaleuca keep making awesome products and Haters your not stopping them.
Pam you are so right. GB you

Thanks Brian, but your link is not working.
I clicked on the link and it worked fine.
It doesn’t work-the link.
Does.
Yes the link works fine and the info on it is on point. Thanks for sharing.
My parents have been customers for 25 years, in other words I have been using Melaleuca since I was a kid and remember taking the vitamins. I was using products on and off from them and then after college I joined. It was hard at the time to keep up with the minimum product points because it was just me and my husband. I ended up cancelling, which seemed painless and easy. (Fast forward a couple of years – bought our first house and had our first kid.) I started noticing my parents buying all of these new products and it peaked my interest again. I have always loved their products (would ask occasionally for them from my parents), but it really didn’t come into play till I had a kid, then the eco-friendly and safe cleaning products really were important as well as our health, PLUS they have a great fitness line now and we were already spending big bucks on supplements/shakes. We made “the switch” recently and I easily exceed the required product points and can not wait to place my order at the beginning of the month. I am able to use up what I have and still have enough to buy of other items. I always tell my friends that are interested to use what they have then replace as they go, use the incentives to try products. They now offer videos to learn about the products to earn money towards purchases when you first join. I am so excited about their kids products, plus my kid takes the vitamins and they are 100% better tasting than when I took them. I did try one! They do constantly improve upon what they offer and the product base now is extensive. They have a great essentials oil line now too which is very popular and I have done some cost comparison. The prices are higher if you compare them to bargain/generic brands, but if you are like me and buy middle to high end to get quality, the value is there. I am super happy, but it might not be for everyone. There vitamins have been amazing and I have noticed a huge change in my health over a month. They have several new lines too to target areas. As far as the business side, I like that I can refer customers when I want to, the money would be nice, but it would be exhausting to keep it up part-time. My parents did it when they first started, but after a few years and traveling they just have been customers since then. They are actually thinking about trying it again for fun! It is fun as long as you keep an open mind about other peoples situations and if it will actually be a benefit for them or not. I am totally open about my experience and don’t go in with expectations expect to tell them why I love it.
Brigette says it about right. My family has been with Melaleuca for 18 years. I see a bunch of white lies put in this forum. Just because someone that wasn’t properly trained doesn’t mean the company is bad. We have saved a lot of money, for example, the laundry system. I would like to see truth instead of bashing a company that is helping people.
I have actually used the “laundry system” for almost a year JP and I wasn’t impressed. Have the products changed in the past couple of years? I really want to know how things are these days, as I want to see every company succeed and most especially its members.
Melaleuca just released an even more powerful line of laundry products with 3 natural enzymes.
Looks like I might have to check it out as I am looking for a unique brand to throw around my household. What other reasons would you throw at me to get me back in Brian?
There are over 500 reasons I could throw at you. But seriously, did you know that Melaleuca now has over 500 products and they are shooting for 600 by year end? Also, over 600,000 new accounts have been set up from January to May this year alone. When you mentioned the idea of “getting in early” to succeed in MLM, well, that doesn’t apply with Melaleuca because there never has been a bad time to work the Melaleuca business.
As for HAVING to purchase products monthly, there seems to be a misunderstanding here. While it is advantageous to do so, you can purchase products one time every 6 months if you wanted, but I can imagine how a person could go that long not buying essential type products that Melaleuca manufacturers. Even a person doing the business does not have to buy products. The point is that this is not MLM and Melaleuca has legally proven it. There is a section at http://www.imworthitgroup.com that goes into the MLM subject.
Here is a link that will really help you determine whether or not it even makes sense to get a membership: http://www.makegreengogreen.com/warm-checklist?globalgroup.
As for the quality of the products, Melaleuca has indeed improved and they keep improving on their products. Avoiding the use of strong toxic chemicals requires a different approach and I personally have not noticed a problem with quality when combating any stubborn stains as far as the cleaning products go.
Pricing is another thing I have to comment about. You mentioned the products were expensive. I have not noticed that. What were you comparing? I do know that the toothpaste cost more than Colgate or Crest, but that isn’t an apples to apples comparison because Melaleuca’s toothpaste would be considered natural and would be better compared to something like Tom’s or other “natural” versions. When compared this way, Melaleuca is about 1/2 the price.
I was just talking to someone today about how Melaleuca’s Ibuprofen is literally 1/2 the price of Advil and the formula is EXACTLY the same because by law Ibuprofen can only be make one way.
Anyways, do check out the link above because you will see just how broad the product selection is and I would be shocked if there wasn’t enough to justify having your own shopping account.
Hey Janice, I am actually thinking about making an order to test some of the new products. Will my account still be active from over 5 years ago?
No the “laundry system” doesn’t work. I’ve been using it for 5 years. My whole family complains that the clothes just don’t get clean.
Yeah even when I used more than the tiny capful, it still wouldn’t make our clothes feel clean. I love the smell of clean clothes and even from the bottle, Malapower doesn’t even have a nice smell to it. Are you still a member Gretchen?
My favorite part is the laundry system! I use garden lavender and my clothes are clean, smell fresh, and look better than with what I previously used! You can call text or email me if you have any further questions or want to join again! 5599094548 Jes19kyn@yahoo.com
Ok I just sent you an email.
I’ve been ready this thread after coming across it on the original article that came up when I googled some information on Melaleuca. It hard to follow with all the replies from different people, however has a broad range of opinions which is good. Being that is currently, October 2016, I was wondering your take and opinion on the company now? John, as well as any others who may have tried Melaleuca products recently, who have a change of opinion one way or the other from previous time frame that you may have commented on this topic. It seems that not too long ago John was going to give Melaleuca another try with different products, what is your view of those products? I was first introduced to Melaleuca when asked to attend a demonstration/informational session at my neighbors house back in October 2010. I have never been a member of any type of “pyramid” company before but people seem to recommend highly, lotions for my 9 year old daughter’s eczema, i decided to look into it more today. So, with this being said, it came across again this past summer when I rented a pool home from someone, to vacation in Florida. The owner had brought Melaleuca up in conversation since he knows that I work from home in sales field. I buy and resell mostly Gymboree childrens clothing and accessories as well as DO items that people sold as lots, etc when getting out of the business for the most part. I seem to have the most inventory currently in Thirty One items than any of the other companies:) So, I would like to hear your opinion at this time, being that the time frame that this thread initially started was back in 2013.
Thank you,
Joy
I haven’t tried any of the products since I joined a long time ago! lol
The question about whether or not Melaleuca is a scam / pyramid scheme, etc… is one of the more frequently asked questions online.
This site covers just about every question a person might ask about the company: http://www.imworthitgroup.com.
That is a melaleuca site. It is biased. ?
Frank Vandersloot is the CEO, not Mike. I was in Melaleuca for many years when it first started. At first, I thought it was great with a great compensation plan. Then it started changing the comp plan so it wasn’t as great. Also, Vandersloot is a huge right wing republican supporter and sends a lot of money their way. One month during the election in 2008, he had an article in the monthly magazine urging us to vote for McCain. He said we weren’t real Americans if we didn’t support McCain. That is when I quit the organization. I never found the products to be any better than anything else and they were more expensive to buy.
Thanks for the correction LJ. Yeah I was a member for a while too, but not only was I not even making enough to cover my auto-ship, but I was getting backed up with the products. I’m curious as to how the company is doing now, do you know anything else about them?
The company seems to be experiencing a lot of growth. Don’t quote me on this but I think they had 10% growth last year and they are continuously coming out with new products and new product lines. Seems to me that if their products weren’t good, they wouldn’t be experiencing such growth in revenue .
Yeah this was when I was in like 5 years ago, so I’m pretty sure they have made some changes by now, lol.
Melaleuca enrolled 130,000 new customers in January 2016. They now have over 500 products. We are completely in love with their products. And… My family is low income, and we still manage to hit our point minimum every month by spending about $60. I’d rather spend $8 on a bottle of environmentally safe glass cleaner that will last me for 3-4 months than buy a $2 bottle of chemicals once a month. We are spending about the same as we always have on cleaning supplies, and bathroom and personal care items, and we definitely prefer Melaleucas products. My advice to anyone who asks… If you don’t clean much, or if you are loyal to your personal care brands, then don’t even try it. It’s not for everyone. For my family, it has been a blessing. I am a Melaleuca customer for life, guaranteed.
I also want to clarify, Melaleuca never claims to be “organic”. However, any man made ingredients that they do use have to be verified as environmentally safe, and their methods of creation have to be environmentally sustainable. So no chemical byproducts, no formaldehyde, no bleach. It’s definitely a pro for us personally.
Thanks for sharing Amber. I guess I was lied to about the products being organic or maybe that was their thing back when I joined in 2010 or something like that. Do you know what Melaleuca was like 5 years ago compared to now? I want to update this as well as learn more about any new products they may have. Thanks Amber!
This is a scam and the product is not near as good as you say. Chrissy at Remington at memorial in Tulsa lied to my 70 year old mother and this shit didn’t stop until I stepped in.
That’s the beauty of life everyone is different and don’t alway agree, but to leave a company for that reason is wrong. I didn’t agree with the article and didn’t think his personal views should be printed in the magazine. The products you buy in the grocery store you know who those companies invest money in? I think not. GOD still rule no matter who in office he is the only one who gave his only begotten Son JESUS to save us. The products are good and helps with different health condition. I know God is the reason the good people who enrolled me shared with me. I Believe In God Not Man!!!
I just left a Melaleuca sales pitch and after reviewing the full ingredient list I was horrified. They pride themselves on ‘Eco friendly’ and natural products but almost every ingredient list I read had a known carcinogen!! Nice try Melaleuca.
Yeah I was a member for over a year and got backed up with all kinds of products. Do you know how they are doing now?
…..So, we went to a sales pitch last night. I was impressed ….. until I read this story. Thanks John now I am going to cancel my card with them. We are a family of 2. If I had kids and and other people in my household this might be good for me. I just don’t need to get backed up with supplies and other junk.
….. On your question of how are they doing, well it seams that they are doing well. a lot of new members and stuff like that. over 550 products a few people making millions . You know the deal. I think It’s like Amway and we all know how that goes.
….. I hope this answered your question John. Thanks for the review it was most helpful to us.
Michael Straus
mjstrause@verizon.net
Oh this is definitely like Amway Mike just with a different name. If the products were a little different then maybe you can actually make something out of this. Then again, network marketing is just not your best bet with everyone being aware of how the whole pyramid style business works. This is why I always tell people to create your own online business and quit trying so hard to make money. Help people and the money will come, that’s just how it is. Thanks for the comment Mike and I hope things are going great on your end!
Hi John,
If you want to know why MLM does not work and how Melaleuca is really quite different, including being different from Amway, watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEjXY5A5mPo
Brigitte, you are the worst liar on the entire internet. How much does Melaleuca pay you to write these comments?
I am a melaleuca preferred customer for about two years now. I had signed up for the business part but did not do it well at all. However, the products are so good that I kept ordering, not to mention that when I first signed up, I got the value pack (without the business kit-my mistake) and my dad was able to try the vitamins and use them for several months until now and it has helped him while he was taking chemo to overcome some of the side effects and believe me there was a difference. He used to have lots of bad side effects prior to taking the vitamins from Melaleuca and after using them, the side effects were milder but still very hard for me. Thank God he is still alive after being given only 2 years of life.
I did not do the business part well. I did believe that the products were good. I never got a back up order. I think that is where you got disappointed. You have to customize your order to the items that you and your family use and enjoy and benefit from. This way you can be a happy customer and it is this “happiness” that causes you to reach others and tell them about this online store that only offers so many products-I hear it has 450 now- and that are of exceptional quality. Most of them based on tea tree oil or Mellaleuca in Australian language. I have learned that Melaleuca is not -definitely not a MLM- I’ve seen others and this is not a distributing opportunity, nor a push me to buy or buy more to get more money out of it, either-I think that is what threw you off. You buy the minimum amount of points (any combination of products you like and need only) and the main thing tell others about it, if they like to become customers great if not fine. If they want to add the business part in addition to being customers than you make sure you show them how and train them and help them during the first months to get as many people as they can signed up so they can get their investment back. You do need the help from your enroller to train and sign up others. You could still join again and I would ask you this time don’t spend $200. Buy the value pack and the business kit. Have those 10 membership kits available when you present melaleuca to your friends, so they can be motivated to start right away and they can learn as fast as possible how to do it right. This is a word of mouth marketing type of business-that passes the expenses of property, utilities’ costs, store property taxes, employee payrolls, transportations costs like 18 wheelers, gas, insurances, etc to the customers and to those that tell others about it and get more customers. It is not an MLM. The compensation is limited. Only the people you enroll directly can make you get 20% commission, the percentage from the other generation is limited to 7% and you have to reach a certain level to be able reach commissions from further generations. So what you truly get is an average of 25% of what you’r direct enrollees buy. Melaleuca and its strategies make sure to keep your enrollees satisfied with their products and their rebates-like 15% back if purchasing by the 15th of every month.
If you want more explanations, let me know. This is certainly not an MLM. This is help yourself while you help others type of business.
I hope this was helpful to clarify some of the misunderstandings between this business type and MLMs.
Sincerely,
Brigitte Sanchez
I signed up a month ago and read this forum. I filled out the forum and couldn’t continue until my credit card debit was lower. I forgot to blacken out suspend my account, but they cancelled me anyways. Next thing I find out my enroller is phoning me up. I don’t want to cut off my friends cheque, so I will enrool again….
