Within my Amway review, I will be showing you why people label this company as a scam and “the Amway pyramid scheme”. I will also be showing you whether or not you’re too late to join a company like this and if it’s even worth the time and effort.
I remember when Amway was the biggest thing to hit the work from home world. I was still a little kid, but I remember all the hype and crazy jargon that came along with it. Now, I can truly understand what this business is about.
What is Amway?
Amway (American Way) is a multilevel marketing company that was established in 1959 by Richard De Vos and Ray Van Andel out of Ada, Michigan. This company has grown since then and hasn’t stopped. How can a company be so strong?
The company conducts business all over the world in over a hundred countries and territories and has been around for a really long time. They sell products that range from vitamins to electronics so you can see that they have a lot to offer.
Amway has reported over $11.3 billion dollars by the end of December 2012 which is definitely an increase from prior years. They have a wide product line which is why this multilevel company has no problem keeping up with the demand of its consumers. Did I mention that Amway owns the Orlando magic stadium? How’s that for a pyramid scheme?
Who is Amway for?
This is for anyone that is interested in working from home and can do well with direct sales. Although this company is driven by it’s recruiting system, the products make up for a lot of the selling within the company.
Being apart of multilevel marketing in the past, I am no longer interested in losing most of my friends or people looking at me like, “there’s that dude that tried to sell me that business”. I now do business online as my alternative to network marketing which beats the cold calling and meetings at coffee shops to present some products.
Businesses like this is not for every0ne but if done the right way and you give it your all then there’s nothing bad that can come out of a multilevel marketing business like Amway.
The Training & Support
With the information that comes with your starter kit, you will be guided through the presentations either online, or in person. Back in the day there was no such thing as presenting online. Thanks to the wonderful world wide web, there are so many things that can be done online.
Once you become an IBO (individual business owner) of Amway, you will have access to the leadership training which will give you the following.
- Better Knowledge of the products whether online or in person
- Business Leadership and training courses
- Support from your sponsor aka your up-line as well as other IBO members
- Customer Service
There is also some training that you will have access to and will help you run your own business. Here is what type of training you can expect when you become an IBO with the company.
- Mentoring programs
- CD’s with successful business members and how they made it with the company (back in the day it was cassette tapes)
- Self development training
- Product education
Are the Products any Good?
Most people are familiar with the products in Amway because they really do have a lot of products and that is the way to get people to become IBO’s of the company. Here are some of the products that you can expect with Amway.
1. Nutrilite
This is one product that I was always introduced to when i was a kid. The Nutrilite products were actually the same exact ones that got Amway started in the first place.
These products were introduced to childhood friends and now business partners Richard DeVos and John Van Andel from which they bought and formed Amway. These vitamins were very popular when Amway first started and have been one of their biggest products to date.
2. Artistry
From what I recall as a kid, my aunt would always promote her makeup and I could still see the Artistry logo like it was yesterday. This product still exists with Amway and I don’t think it would be going anywhere anytime soon.
Artistry is Amway’s cosmetic lineup which of course consists of your makeups and lipsticks. Along with the basic makeup they also have anti aging skin care products. Some people just buy the Artistry products and I couldn’t tell you how good they are because, well, I’m not a lady.
3. XS
XS is Amway’s energy drink which is something that wasn’t around when I first heard about the company. I really can’t tell you how these drinks taste or if they work because I have not tried them for myself.
These energy drinks come in different flavors which are the Summit Blast, Citrus Blast, Cranberry-grape Blast, and the Rootbeer Blast. I guess these drinks will give you that “blast” you need to get you through your day, it seems.
4. Legacy of Clean
LOC is Amway’s cleaning product that started the whole biodegradable concentrated product in its class. LOC is something that I actually did try and being that it was the first in its class I guess I can say it was decent. When you hear that something is concentrated you expect that product to pretty much tear through the tough dirt it is supposed to get rid of. I’m pretty sure they improved this product being that there are so many cleaners out there.
This product is another one that has been around since the beginning and is not going anywhere as well. LOC is a household name and if it ain’t LOC then guess what? It’s “brand x.” That is one thing I learned when I was first introduced to Amway.
5. Other Products
Along with these big name products there are so many other things you can purchase through Amway. From electronics to snacks and healthy eats, you can find it with these guys. They have their brand chips and health products which is pretty unique and makes them stand out from the competition.
How do I Make Money?
Just like any other multilevel marketing company out there, Amway comes with the good ole comp plan. You can make money as an IBO or through points you accrue when selling their products. Amway’s comp plan of course started many, many years ago and has not changed much. With that being said, you will need to sign more people up to make more money. Make sense?
Although you can make money as an IBO, you will also benefit just by selling some of the products in the company. Like I said earlier, most people can just use the makeup and that is it, nothing else.
The Cost
To start making money with Amway it is going to cost you $62 right off the bat. Not too bad to start a business if you ask me. I ran a bar and it did not cost no $62 to start. My business actually costs me $47 and it doesn’t require any type of recruiting. To each their own my friend.
With your initial buy into the company, you can get stuff like a business starter kit and that of course will cost you a little more. You will probably get some pitch like every IBO must have this to really be successful and blah blah blah, you know the rest.
Is Amway a Scam?
Although I am not a fan of any type of MLM or network marketing gig I do believe that the 50+ years in business that must tell you something. Don’t you think they would’ve been shut down by now?
Amway is a legit work from home business and will not make you rich overnight. If you do put in some work and effort then you may see results with Amway. Okay maybe not some, but a lot.
If someone can tell you that Amway is a scam then you might want to look at their current situation. They are probably not happy with their lives and are very pessimistic also. I personally would not join Amway but I am not going to bash a company that has been around longer than I have been living, so I’m going to have to say that Amway is not a scam.
Is Amway a Pyramid Scheme?
Being that Amway is not a scam also means that it is not a pyramid scheme. Companies get shut down for doing business as a pyramid scheme and guess what? Amway is still around!
The thing that makes this company very effective is the fact that they have products to back up their multilevel marketing business model. Without the products, Amway will be another scam, just like most of these network marketing companies.
I hope you enjoyed my review on Amway and please feel free to let me know what you think. If you still don’t like the Amway Pyramid Scheme, that’s fine too. I hope you find a business that best suits you, so that you too can be your own boss and don’t forget to check out my #1 work from home business. Cheers!

A Work at Home Jobs
Come back John. Lol. Just kidding. But if you do well I want to guve my take why Amway keeps on going and staying strong after all the negativity in the past. They are smart they keep up with the times. For example currently as IBO myself we are attracting millennials and their lifestyle interest through XS. The fun, sports, party the freedom everything they like we have for them. Plus I’m sure you are aware of the importance of reaching millennials in the next five years. Actually it’s very critical as work changes millennials are the next big thing. We are in the people business helping them start a business for their first time. Selling great products they love and enjoy. The hotel meeting are fading away with new party events taking their place. Visit our newly FB page XSNation Events crated just a few days ago. We have XSNation our main page. Oh sorry you lost some friends. Not sure what you did to them but that was not cool I’m sure. We build new friendships and they know what we do for a living we don’t push them or harass anyone. They just watch what we do in social media and get interested. The combination of millennias, social media and XS its a perfect match. Hope we can work something out together im not asking to joining us again which of course we want that. But other ways perhaps. An article such as this helps us IBOs with some of the older generations past reputation. Well that’s a thank you comment.
That’s great to hear Ron! I am willing to take a look at the products as I’m sure they’ve added new ones.
