Best Summer Jobs For College Students Looking To Make More Money

Last Updated: December 20, 2018 //  by John

summer-jobs-for-college-studentsIt’s summer!

Yay!

For those in the work force, you probably didn’t flinch when summer came around or you probably didn’t even know it came unless you have kids.

Now for those of you that are in school, you probably felt it and embraced it due to the work and stress that comes with this thing called life.

Well guess what?

It is summer and now it’s time to take a break.

Time to take a break for some, but also a great opportunity for others to take advantage of your free time and bring in some extra cash.

Whatever the case may be, here are some jobs that you can take on for the summer so that you can make some money while you can, because Fall semester will be here faster than you know it.

1.) Hostess/Server

Typically in the same field of work, this is a great way to use your summer as there are a bunch of people around in the same boat as you, doing this very specific job.

Not the best hourly wage, but with tips getting paid out faster than a regular check, you can get the bare necessities just from one day’s work.

Depending on the type of restaurant you work in will also determine how much tip you can make in a day.

There are servers that make $200+ a day, which I’m sure anyone could use.

Imagine working 5 days out of the week and being able to bring in that type of money.

Yeah, it’s pretty sweet.

The work might not be the easiest, but the hours and flexibility are definitely there.

2.) Become an Uber Driver

If you want flexibility, this is the job for you.

The process to become an Uber driver might not be the easiest thing in the world, but once you get approved, things will be a lot smoother.

You get to work whenever you want, so if you need money you simply get out there and have people find you to give them a ride to where they want to be.

The bad part about this job is you will be using your personal vehicle, so if that won’t fly with you, this is not the job for you.

It does take quite the process to get started, but this is a very flexible option if that’s what you’re after.

You can also take a look at Lyft, which offers the same services as Uber.

3.) Merchandising

Get affiliated with a distributor and be that person who stocks their products for them.

Make it look nice and pretty, try to make them sell, and voila!

You get paid.

This job is usually commission based, so depending on how many products you’re able to sell will determine your pay.

The thing about this job is that the products you will be promoting are usually products that will go off the shelf anyways.

Liquor, diapers, fruits, etc.

Your job is to make things look nice and that’s about it.

4.) Caregiver

There’s no better way to make extra cash than by helping the elderly or someone sick.

Not the easiest of jobs, but there are a lot of wealthy families that need this type of help and you might just be the perfect candidate.

This job does require patience and I think fits those of you who are majoring in social work.

Do this with the intention of helping others and this job can be a very enjoyable one.

5.) Writing

There’s no better way to make money and keep your brain fresh for next semester than to write some articles on the world wide web.

With sites like Upwork and Freelancer, you are able to get paid per article or even hourly.

Some people will pay you big bucks just for one article, so don’t get paid less than $10 per 1k words.

Make money writing and you will see how powerful the internet really is.

You can also make money writing product reviews, which is a great way to also consider running your own affiliate marketing business.

6.) Do Silly Jobs Online

Thanks to sites like Fiverr.com, you can create little videos, like people’s FB pages, and other small tasks that people are willing to pay for.

I’m sure you can take a pic of yourself holding a sign or even create a nice header for a website, which you can do on there and make a quick $5 bucks for it.

Click here to see more on Fiverr to see what other little jobs you can do to make $5.

There are people on there that come up with the silliest of jobs and trust me, there are people paying for it too.

Get yourself 10 customers a day just to share a post on your Facebook wall and that can mean some good money on your end.

7.) Delivery

From pizzas, all the way to furniture, these types of jobs are not just good for bringing in a couple of bucks but also to keep you in shape.

I was once a messenger and although I made less than $10/hr, I was able to drive all over the place and somewhat stay in shape because I was always “running” around.

Some of these jobs will require you to use your own vehicle, so put that into consideration if you do decide to do something like delivering pizza.

Other delivery jobs to consider are postal and newspaper delivery services.

8.) Customer Service

This can be a very stressful job if you’re not fit for the role.

With the fact that you will be talking to people, you need to consider the fact that you will be associating yourself with others who might not have the patience.

As a customer service representative, patience is a must and if you don’t have at least that much, this might not be the job for you.

A very basic understanding of math might be necessary as well, especially if you decide to take on something like being a cashier.

9.) Virtual Assistant (VA)

Another flexible job that can be done from home, this is one of the best jobs to consider.

You might not be talking to anyone (including your employer) face to face, but this job does require some type of interaction.

The tasks include organization, schedule creation, editing, and whatever else you can think of that people will need help with in the online space.

Some students who take on virtual assistant types of jobs usually end up becoming full-time employees as this type of job can be done even while you’re back in school

10.) Flipping

This is not your typical job, but it has helped me build the capital to help me run my first business.

Very profitable and can do a lot more for you if you have the patience and financial knowledge of investing and producing profits.

Learn how to make money flipping and you can make a lot of money on sites like Craigslist and Facebook for buying and selling.

Not so much for the typical minded person, but can be a very profitable endeavor if you have somewhat of the entrepreneurial spirit.

Conclusion

There are many ways to earn money these days, and you can find them if you did just a little research.

Personally, I recommend you start your own online business if you are considering more than just looking for a part-time job.

I work from home full-time and actually stopped going to college thanks to this wonderful thing called the internet.

I simply sell other people’s products through a simple website all while earning a commission in the process.

I hope this list of summer jobs has helped you in one way or the other and please do leave any questions you may have in the comments section below.
