Wondering if this site will actually work? This Receipt Hog review will give you everything you need to know before you decide to invest your valuable time.
This system has received a lot of good feedback from thousands of users around the world and that’s always a good thing.
However, I like to dig deeper into these systems to discover what they really have to offer and what the creators are potentially hiding from its users.
So keep reading my Receipt Hog review and find out if you can really make a decent amount of money with this system or if you’ll be wasting your time.
Receipt Hog Review
Name: Receipt Hog
Website: www.receipthog.com
Price to join: Free
Overall Rating: 2/5 Stars
What is Receipt Hog?
Receipt Hog is a smartphone app designed to collect data from the public for market research. They do it to find out their spending habits and preferences.
Furthermore, the entire app is owned by a company called InfoScout, that has been around for a very long time and have created a lot of these apps.
At a glance: The app is used to collect valuable research information, it is then handed over to big companies that can make great use of the data accumulated, rewards are then granted to you; the user.
How Does It All Work?
Basically, you sign up with Receipt Hog, verify your email address and then you can begin using the app.
From there, it’s as simple as shopping literally ANYWHERE and buying ANY item/items, then taking a photo of your receipt.
Hence the name Receipt Hog.
When you snap photos of your receipts (must be using the app), your virtual currency will go up – “coins”. Your coins increase with the more receipts you snap photos of.
When you have enough coins added up, it’s just a matter of redeeming them for your rewards.
There are 2 rewards that you can choose from, an Amazon.com gift card or cash with PayPal.
Essentially, that’s how the entire system works, very much like Swagbucks and Be Frugal.
Bonuses
Yes, there are bonuses that this system offers, which you can earn just from using the app as it is designed to.
There are slots available, paid surveys, shopping trips that can be won, and much more.
Furthermore, every time you snap a picture of your receipt and wait for it to get verified, you have a chance to enter the sweepstakes monthly draw.
You can earn up to 5000 coins if you win which converts to roughly $40.
So basically the more active you are at using Receipt Hog, the more bonuses/games you get available to you, the more coins you earn, and the more money you make.
Don’t expect to earn a fruitful amount if you aren’t actively uploading receipts daily.
What About Earnings?
As you already know by now, every time you snap a photo of your receipt, you get coins in return.
Money that’s converted to coins:
- Less than $5 is 0 coins
- $5-$10 is 5 coins
- $10-50 is 10 coins
- $50-100 is 15 coins
- $100+ is 20 coins
Coins that’s converted to money:
- 1000 coins is $5 (minimum cash out)
- 1800 coins is $10
- 3200 coins is $20
- 4500 coins is $30
As you can clearly see from what I have laid out above, it’s going to take a heck of a long time to earn big dollars, but that’s not to say that it’s not for anyone.
Because Receipt Hog will work for some people, but more on that below.
Who Receipt Hog Is For
Receipt Hog will make a great choice for people that do a lot of shopping and want to make their experience much more fun. If you want to have a little fun and earn a small return in the process, then by all means give this app a go.
However, if you are looking to make much more cash than that, something that’s much more “passive” and doesn’t require you to work for pennies, then you might want to do something like affiliate marketing.
Pricing & Purchase Details
Signing up with Receipt Hog doesn’t cost a dime and you can get access to this system by going to their website – www.receipthog.com
You are basically working for the owners of the app by providing them with market research that they hand over to big companies.
That is much more valuable to them than making you pay for the app.
Se yes, it is completely free to use the app, while it will always be free as well.
When you’ve accumulated enough points, it’s as simple as redeeming them on the app and getting your reward, which is PayPal cash or an Amazon gift card.
You choose what you want to receive and yes they will pay.

Pros and Cons
Pros
- Is possible to make money
- It is free to join and use
- Multiple bonuses available
Cons
- There’s no referral program. Affiliates can’t promote it, so they are actually losing out on extra members
- Only 2 rewards available – 1 type of gift card and cash
- Not a huge money-maker
- It’s likely going to take weeks and possibly even months before you can receive the minimum payout ($5)
- Not worth your time
So is Receipt Hog a Scam?
This site is definitely legit and there is no sign of scam here.
However, it might not be your best bet for making money online, but it is definitely a breath of fresh air to review something that is not a scam.
For something that’s free to join, there really shouldn’t be any complaints.
I mean, what did you expect, right?
Receipt Hog is not a scam, but I wouldn’t recommend it.
What I Recommend
Making money online is a wonderful thing but using sites like Receipt Hog will only discourage you from doing bigger and better things.
I completely understand that it’s free and will always be free, but you do need to understand that your time is your most valuable asset.
If you were to ask me what you should do with your time, I will tell you to create your own online business or don’t do business online at all.
I have used many sites like this in my career and if your time is worth pennies an hour then this might just be for you.
In the end, it is completely up to you.
Whatever you decide to do I’m sure it will do you well.
Thanks for reading my Receipt Hog review and I hope it has given you everything you need to know.
Good luck and I wish you the best!

Aaaanndddd they dropped me. They are terminating my account because they are losing money! Seriously!!?!? They said they are doing it to a lot of people. I GOT $1. Message is below:
The time has come, sadly, for us to part ways. It’s not you, it’s…us.
What you need to know:
Next Monday, March 27th at 11:59PM Eastern, you will no longer be able to log into the Receipt Hog app. (We’ll help explain why further down in this letter).
If you have 200 coins or more, you WILL be able to cash out via PayPal or Amazon gift card before March 27th at 11:59PM Eastern. You will be able to redeem the exact amount of reward that you have earned, to the nearest dollar that you have earned. (For example, if you’ve earned a coin equivalent to $8.05, you will be paid $8.00, even though you have only reached the $5 cash out tier.)
At this time, your receipts and any answers you may have provided on surveys will no longer be used by Receipt Hog.
Why are we breaking up?
All jokes aside, we are disappointed to have to let you and a number of our Receipt Hoggers go. The Receipt Hog community has grown exponentially in the past couple years (a great thing!), but that has resulted in us no longer being able to afford paying all of our Receipt Hoggers (not a great thing). As you know well, we pay a reward for each and every qualifying receipt that someone uploads. Too many people uploading receipts = danger of no more money.
John
Wow, that’s not good. Thanks for sharing the super valuable info though Cathy and I hope you get to cash out what you’ve earned. What else are you into these days if you don’t mind me asking?
Tar
It maybe two stars but that being said, I would like to try out for a day or two, just to feel and have experience on the latest trends in shopping, as large companies seek to obtain data. Well, I see this as a benefits to the extent that this can be used for research and development for general knowledge or even for our business. Not the best choice financial wise, which it is indeed true that it is better to be an affiliate rather than accumulating coins and points and redeem via Paypal in cash.
Leo
Hi John, I personally feel the same sentiments as you that that receipt hog is not meant for striving a full time income.
But it is definitely welcoming to earn a little spare cash during your free time while you shop. Coupled with coupons and credit cards benefits, your cost of purchase would be really low! However to be able to gain full time income at home, there are many other ways and I agreed with you that affiliate marketing is one of the best ways!
Does receipt hog works for Asian countries?
John
Definitely can make some money and save but I’m just glad that it’s legit! And it does work in Asia as well.
Linda
Your site is awesome and I really enjoyed this review! I look for ways to make money online and I realized that it takes time and effort to build something on my own. I guess this Receipt Hog is great to earn some small money but its not worth it in the long run. Great post with clear pros and cons that helps me understand more about what needs to be done. Thanks John!
John
Thanks Linda!

There are a lot of platform and apps there days that allow you to make some money but I have given this a though and I think that long term if you do it only for the money you eventually stop doing it – stop clicking on the ads, stop playing games as you loose interest. However if you do or write about something of an interest to you, you keep on doing it just because it is interesting to you. And that’s when it all adds up and you can start making money. But most important – you find a meaning in what you do – provide value to people and you are happy. Your life makes sense now.
Chris
I actually know someone who tried this opportunity out (in app form) about 7 months ago now and they had no real complaints…except for the low, low earnings!
I was wondering if you knew of any other online opportunities or app opportunities that were worth my time – something that could maybe offer a full time wage?
John
Yeah I used to do these types of sites too but in the end it was really not worth my time. I found a program that can show you how to make money, but of course requires you to do more than surveys. You can see my full review here to see what I think is the best way to make money online. Hope this helps Chris!
