Before you call me silly, I want you to know that I do have kids. Oh and I do make money online.
Being that I love what I do, I can’t help but compare what I do to what I encounter in my everyday life. In this case, it just so happens to be a movie and it also happens to be a kid’s movie.
So we took the kids to watch Pete’s Dragon and throughout the movie I couldn’t help but think about how this move related to me, the person I am, and how it has played the hugest role in my chosen path of work.
I wouldn’t say this is much of a spoiler, so those of you that haven’t seen it yet can read along if you’d like.
You might learn a thing or two.
So How Does This Involve Online Marketing?
Well, for most people dragons are nothing but a tale and I can agree with that to a certain extent.
If you’re familiar with Pete’s Dragon (the old movie) you’ll know that there are a few characters and Pete is pretty much the only one who has seen this dragon.
I mean, he’s lived with it for crying out loud.
I take that back.
There was an old man who told his story about his encounter with a dragon and no one of course believed in him.
They thought he was losing his mind and no one took him seriously. Not even his daughter that loved him dearly.
This is also the part that got me thinking about my online business and how far I have come in the two short years that I have been doing it.
Same Thing Applies Online
No One Will Believe you, or should I say in you. As much as the people around you would like to believe in you, it’s almost as if you’re a crazy old fart that believes in dragons.
As a successful online marketer there is one thing that has taken me a long way and is probably the biggest reason why I am where I am.
I never listened to a single person I was around. Of course they were teachers, doctors, and any normal job you can think of, but that was exactly what I DID NOT want to be.
So for someone to hear that I’m going to do online marketing immediately drew a bunch of negativity.
It’s either they thought everything online was a scam or they thought I had the latest and greatest lotions and potions gig to present to them.
It doesn’t help that I was involved with companies like Melaleuca and Vidacup and did try to get them to join me so I can make some money.
Hey, I tried.
Creating an Online Business
The difference with what I was taking on this time was the fact that I wasn’t trying to sell them the best coffee in the world or some type of fancy creams.
I learned something called affiliate marketing.
I actually learned how to build a website, add content, and monetize it. The whole idea of creating a site and helping people find information they are already looking for really impressed the crap out of me.
After falling for so many scams online (yup, I didn’t make money right away), I finally came across the one program that taught me every single thing I know about making money online legitimately.
How it Happened
I came across a site called the Wealthy Affiliate and that is the same exact site that taught me how to do exactly what I just mentioned above.
After all the MLMs and scams, I finally found something that actually worked. I also didn’t have to recruit a single person, and I didn’t have to spend thousands of dollars either.
The fact that I knew I wasn’t going to make money overnight was a real surprise to me because every scam I was involved with promised me the world and gave no results.
This time I had direction and a whole community of online entrepreneurs behind me. With that and a very strong desire to make a living online, the rest was history.
Forget About What Anyone Has to Say
Back to Pete and his dragon. Like I said, I couldn’t help but relate my online career to this movie and I’m sure you can use this as a lesson too.
So when the next person tells you that you can’t make money online, do yourself a favor and stop talking to them about anything related to money or jobs.
If they’re not family, I say you cut them off. I have done it with many friends (even if they believed in me), and only because we wanted different things in life.
Talking about the people you hang around with can wait for another post, which I’ll probably be doing after this one.
