So, you’re retiring soon? Then what? I bet you have numerous plans in mind (or not). You are probably considering taking a long vacation somewhere, away from the usual scenery and roads you have been seeing almost every day since you started working.
The average age for retirement might be somewhere between 62 and 66, which of course old age being a major factor for most.
So what are you going to do after retirement? For sure, you cannot go on vacation everyday for the rest of your life and just spend all your retirement money, especially with most retirees not making enough to even make ends meet.
The idea: Though retiring from work is meant for relaxation after years of hard work, wouldn’t it be nice to have another source of income while making the most out of your retirement?
The internet is the answer. Here are some splendid ideas for retired people to earn cash and make your financial plans stable.
1. English Tutor
Whether you are a native English speaker or a foreigner who can speak excellent English, you can find a lot of job opportunities online as a part time language instructor.
There are growing numbers of people from non-English speaking countries who are looking for someone to help them write and speak English. This is a good chance for retired folks to earn money while at home.
The basic requirements are:
- Stable internet connection
- Headset with microphone
- Webcam
- A quiet environment
- Teaching skills
If this is something that might interest you, I recommend VIPKID as they pay at least $2,000 per month.
2. Freelancing
Online workplaces like Odesk, Fiverr, and Elance let you choose a home-based career. You can offer services as a writer, virtual assistant, administrative support, researcher, data entry specialist, and many more.
This would be a very typical job and most of them don’t pay that well. This is an option and can be done completely online.
My #1 recommendation is Freelancer, so give them a try and you might just start making money as soon as today.

3. Direct Selling/Multilevel Marketing
These revenue-building systems are pretty popular. The structure can be simply described as selling products. Direct selling usually includes a starter kit which consists of products you can sell to other people.
On the other hand, multilevel marketing is like a more complex form of direct selling where you can earn money in a variety of ways aside from selling products.
Although I don’t really recommend it, due to the fact that you never really know what can happen with the business, this is just one thing you can do.
I have tried quite a few of them in my career and the one that I do recommend is Melaleuca.
Read more here to see why I recommend them.
4. Online Merchant
Online trade business has been a big hit.
This is because people want convenience more than anything else.
Through online shopping, buyers can compare stuff, save time, and find better deals without the hassle of moving from store to store.
You can choose what products to sell online. Just make sure to be wise on your product selection.
Things to remember and ask yourself:
- Have a plan and take time to research on what items are best-selling online.
- Knowing your target market is very essential as well. Find out the type of people who will possibly buy your stuff. Is the demographic enough to attract potential purchasers?
- Who are your established competitors? What will be the marketing technique that can draw attention to your product?
These are just some points to consider if you are planning to start an online store.
And the fact that these things are all about part time jobs for retired people, I think this question is necessary.
- Am I physically capable of managing or manufacturing my products?
If you are going to make your own product, can you handle it by yourself or do you need an extra hand? What if you need to deliver your products to buyers? Can you manage taking your items to your courier? Some couriers offer packages where you can schedule your products for pick up.
5. Home-based Franchising
Many companies offer at-home franchises. This form of franchising can cost you a little start-up investment depending on the product or service, making it a good option for retired people who desire to work from home.
However, purchasing a franchise requires more than investing money and although you can make it as a part time job, the early stages would require full-time effort and dedication.
6. Customer Service
This is simply answering calls from people to address their concerns.
You can setup your home office to make your work environment as comfortable as possible, and you don’t have to be around anyone, if you just so happen to be the antisocial type (lol).
A job like this requires basic computer literacy and you might want to classify the scope of work you need to deal with to have a better idea if you are skilled enough for this job.
Remember now, you will be talking to other people and being friendly is a must for this job. Don’t be one of those people that always has bad days, and then end up taking it out on the customers.
7. Surveys
Getting paid for your opinion is more than brilliant. This is especially suitable for retired people as it does not include complicated tasks, does not need related work experience, and will definitely allow you to work whenever and wherever you want.
Warning: Be aware of scams online. It is always better to read reviews about survey websites before you purchase their starter kits.
So you see how the internet brings possibilities? Having a part-time job after retirement is will not stop you from enjoying.
In fact, it grants financial security. Being retired does not mean you have to surrender your income capabilities.
My personal favorite is a site called Swagbucks as they offer the most money as well as gift cards to awesome spots just for taking surveys.

8. Create Your Own Online Business
I had to save the best for last, because this is what I do and what I believe to be the best part time job for anyone, whether you’re a retiree or not.
The one thing that would’ve benefited you the most, would have to be if you found this site 20 years ago! Too bad we didn’t exist, but you have the opportunity to do so now.
What if I told you that you can create an online business, which could possibly make more money than you did, even while you were still employed, would you do it?
Imagine this. I am a 31 year old full-blown online marketer and I have ditched an active duty military career, a day job, and a college degree, just because I was making more online. Let’s just say I live retired.
If you want to see how this can be possible, you need to try Wealthy Affiliate. I wouldn’t necessarily call this a job, because you are the boss and you work for yourself.
This to me, is the ultimate part-time job for any retiree or anyone looking to make an extra income or get out of their 9-5.
These jobs will not only make you money, but they will give you the opportunity to work at your own pace and dictate how much money you want to make.

I am a Lawyer practicing the Profession for the last 35 years. On the side, because of my love for the English Language, I started to teach English to those who were weak in English and those who were not fluent in English. To my surprise I have taught more than 3000 students on a face to face basis and online basis. This motivates me to teach more and more students to be proficient in English.
I have no Degree in English. But I have a Bachelors Degree in Law and a Masters Degree in Law. I did all my work in English, & quite proficient in the Spoken English and the Grammar.
It is a pleasure to teach English to persons who are ready and willing to learn English.

Hi,
I am retiring in June . I have taught elementary , middle and High School Math for the past 32 years. Although I wanted to retire , I am looking for something else to do part time
It may sound like something not so profitable Marie, but I think you need to create a blog. With your experience, there’s a lot of people that can benefit from your expertise and you may not know this but there is way too much money to be made online just from a simple blog. Click here to see how you can learn to do all of this as I’m sure you’ll be amazed at what you can actually do from home on your computer.
Nice job ideas for the retired teachers. I think online tutoring is the best option for a retired teacher because he/she can teach very well to the student and online tutoring does not require and traveling, you can teach your students directly from your home itself so that’s a good option as I concern.
Definitely a great choice. Now if you’re not wanting to go down that same path, I think creating a site around teachers is a great option especially with the amount of money you can make. There’s just too much money to be made through affiliate marketing and I think that the teaching niche is great.
I would like to do online teaching but have not found a website that offers this to retired teachers. Please would you advise me?
I’ve heard that teachershelpingteachers.org is looking for retired teachers who want to make additional income. Up to $35/hr or more. Free membership.
