Can I do more than one niche or is one niche website good enough?
I get asked so many questions about how many niches you should be working with at least once a month and it always boils down to the fact that most people just want to make more money.
In the real world, more is usually best but that can be a little tricky when it comes to the online world.
This post might be confusing at first but it will all start to make sense as you read further into things.
As an affiliate marketer myself, I love every aspect of the business and everything that comes with it.
From the purchasing of a domain, building out your site to make it pretty, all the way to producing your very first piece of content.
I absolutely, positively love everything about it.
As a newbie though, things can be very confusing, so I would like to clarify this simple but beyond complicated question for those of you who have been sitting on this question for weeks without taking any action.
Your Bank Account Will Usually Dictate How Many Sites You Have
The type of income you are bringing in will probably be the biggest factor on how you go about your online business.
If you started out like me and have almost a $0 budget, chances are you purchased one or two domains and had to make that work before moving on to making any other investments.
I know, it really sucks.
Having a small investment will leave you few options but this can actually be a good thing when it comes to this business.
By constricting you to one site it allows you to put 100% of your efforts into one site, rather than being like someone who does have money, that buys 10 domains and doesn’t even know where to begin.
The much wealthier fella will start putting in some work here and some work there just to find out that things aren’t really going as planned.
Great job in having more money but without knowing how everything works it can play a huge role in why you can’t seem to succeed with online marketing.
How Much Do You Know?
How much do you know about affiliate marketing?
Do you know what it really takes to make even one website profitable?
Most people that enter the world of affiliate marketing will naturally try to make their first niche “the one”.
For some people, it works out great, while others either quit, thinking that it doesn’t work or realize that they were too busy chasing the money rather than their passion.
The first thing you need to understand is that making money with niche websites takes a lot of time.
I’m not just talking a week or two but rather months or even years for something to go as planned.
The next thing y0u need to know is that this business requires a lot of work as well as a lot of patience.
If that isn’t something you are capable of doing, this might not be the “job” for you.
Lastly, you need to understand that your first niche might not be your last.
If you are finding it hard to create content for that first niche, you might not be in something that really interests you are you were simply covering a topic because someone told you that it was “profitable”.
What good is a niche that is profitable if you have little content on it?
Understanding simple things like this is what will take you to the finish line but I would like to cover why anyone would create more than one niche site.
But First, Do You Really Need More Than One Niche Website?
In reality, one website is really all you need, especially when starting out as it will take up a lot of your time.
Putting your all into one site will do 100x better than trying to manage even just two sites all on your own, so think about that for a second before we move on.
Once you start making money, you can think about working on more than one site.
With all that to the side, here are 5 reasons why I think everyone should ALWAYS have more than one niche site.
1.) Failed Projects
Your first niche might sound like the best thing ever but then you’ll find yourself using the many excuses in the book as to why you aren’t making the big bucks like everyone else.
For a lot of you, it might have been that one blog or crazy person that told you to chase the money and now you have zero progress and nothing but a dream and goals that will probably never get accomplished.
If you find yourself trying to figure out what to put on your new site, you might just be in the wrong niche.
This is where the other niches come into play.
Scratch that first idea and move onto something that might really be what you are interested in.
2.) Domain Age
It’s always hard to tell what Google has planned next but one thing that always seems to play a factor on how your content gets ranked is the age of your site.
Most of you will start out with your first niche giving it everything you’ve got.
It then starts to feel like you’re working for nothing as the dough is not rolling in like you see with everyone else.
The problem you might be having is the fact that your domain is just a baby.
Having to deal with the “Google dance” and not being able to please them early in the game is really hard to deal with especially if you don’t have any income coming in.
Give it some time and things will start to pick up as long as you keep pushing forward.
It’s not your fault your domain can’t grow up any faster.
Now imagine starting your online business with a site that is already a year old?
Buy that domain now and you’ll be ahead of the competition for making such a small investment.
3.) Future Projects
This is the biggest reason why I always got a domain but it is probably the last reason why I should be spending money on a domain.
However, if business starts to pick up and you can get some help with a freelancer, these so called projects can finally leave the launch pad.
When the time is right, guess who will be ready?
You.
Aged domain, money rolling in = More investing
4.) Website Flipping
People are making thousands of dollars just from selling simple websites and almost all of them are established affiliate marketers that simply knew more than the average Joe.
By building a site that can bring in just $1,000 it will give you the opportunity to sell it for $20k +.
Sure it might have taken you time to build but if it’s not your main site, why not take those profits and put them back into your money maker?
More articles means more money and there’s no better way to add to your empire by investing more.
5.) Experience
Some of you might just be as stubborn as I am and learning the hard way is usually our way of learning anything.
Understanding what a niche actually is was not the easiest thing for me but purchasing domains and building multiple sites has taught me a lot.
I guess I paid to learn how this business works but I can tell you that it was very much worth it.
Not to mention the fact that I did own more online real estate that I can use for everything else that I’ve mentioned in this post.
Conclusion
Affiliate marketing is truly an amazing business and one that I recommend to anyone whether you think you can do it or not.
Trust me, I was not good with computers (probably still not) and I was able to find success.
With a little hard work and determination, you can do a whole lot, especially with the whole wide world at your fingertips.
My Recommendation
Have Your Main Site and Then Many Other “Projects”
I can’t even tell you how many domains I’ve purchased in my online career but it is definitely worth every penny.
To any newb to online marketing they would think I’m crazy but to one that is making a lot of money can understand why I have so many.
Some still remain in my back pocket while others have just sat there until their one year was up and they were thrown back into the online space for someone else to snag up.
Whatever the case may be, it soon becomes apart of the life of an online marketer.
Well that’s all from me for now and I hope this has clarified a lot of the misunderstanding that most of you have and please do ask if you are still confused with anything.
Don’t forget that if you are a member of the Wealthy Affiliate, you get free coaching from regardless if you’ve signed up under me or not.
