Making money as a blogger is definitely possible but starting out is always going to be the toughest.
Rather than doing a typical “how to make more money in 2018” post, I figured I’d give you some of the best advice from someone who started from the bottom just like most of you.
My online career started with a nice scam (or many scams actually) before finally finding success.
The thing about my path was that I actually found the one legit program that works since my first scam but a lot of things jumped out onto the road causing me to dump thousands of dollars into a bunch of unnecessary nonsense.
I guess I had to learn the hard way like I always do before finally making real money online and it’s something I just can’t control being the hard headed person I am.
The stubbornness is what makes me do stupid things like falling for scams but it’s also what really got me to where I am today and I guess you can say that I wouldn’t do it any other way.
How did I do it?
Well, let’s just say I finally woke up and realized that thousands of dollars wasn’t going to be made overnight, especially with blogging.
But most especially, I got with the right program and did one major thing…
I Set Goals
If you are not setting goals, you might want to start setting them today.
Don’t just set them in your head but write them down and keep drilling it in your head that you are working towards.
I got a whiteboard specifically for goals and that is what has made all the difference.
In 2015 my goals started with things like…
“make $10k/month by the end of the year”
“blog twice a day”
These goals sound awesome but they probably burnt me out and caused me to do less for some reason.
So just because you set goals does not mean you will accomplish them or even find success.
Focus Your Goals on Everything Besides Blogging
Of course I wanted to make the big bucks and pop out amazing and engaging content but there were other things that needed attention.
These things were a big part of what was holding me back from accomplishing these goals and I want to show you how my goals for my most successful year went.
- Quit playing candy crush
- Work 80% of the time I’m on the computer
- Learn more
These were three of my most simple goals but ones that made the biggest impact.
Now if I was able to make money playing Candy Crush then it would have been a different story but they weren’t paying me a cent.
What I did do was not let silly games take most of my time.
Sure it’s a great way to pass time while in line at the bank but keep it at that and don’t let it take control of you especially when you can be working.
As a blogger you are going to be online and there’s no working around that.
What I did find myself doing was chatting on Facebook and getting lost reading all types of stuff when I really should have been working.
Knocked that out of the picture and boy did things start to get better.
By setting simple goals that have nothing to do with actual blogging, I was able to create 50% more content and make a lot more money than the pervious year.
Make This Year Different
Sometimes setting great goals takes a lot of thinking.
Don’t just get on your whiteboard and write down things just so you can say you have your goals written down but get on there and put things that you actually want to accomplish.
Look at things that needs work and make those changes.
If you sleep too much or you are lacking the energy needed to blog, maybe some good old exercise can fix that.
You want to set goals related to blogging but remember that having a healthier lifestyle and working on other aspects of actual life can really help on the blogging side of things.
Conclusion: Small Goals Lead to Big Results
As far as money, I like to set big goals but realistic ones as well.
I do believe that you need something to chase and having that dollar sign in sight will always push you to do more.
In the end, it is going to be your work ethic that will get you there, so focus on those things and you will see a big difference in your overall blog.
Blogging is supposed to be fun, so make a change this new year and set some goals that you know you can accomplish fairly easily.
I hope you have a wonderful 2018 and please remember that you are in control of where you will be come this time next year.
Thanks for reading and Happy New Year!
