As a newb to affiliate marketing you will come across so many obstacles, especially with the amount of crazy information out there.
One of these crazy obstacles is at the very beginning of this whole journey.
Picking your niche can be one complicated task but it’s what comes before that that can have you scratching your head.
One guru telling you that going with your passion is not the way to go while the other tells you that you need to follow the money.
Well, who do you listen to?
Pretend you have never been told to go with either one and let me give you a few pointers on what will work best for YOU.
First, Understand Your Business
Sure we are all doing affiliate marketing and making money with other people’s products but there’s a lot more to it than that.
Are you running a blog?
Are you paying for traffic or are you relying on Google to give you rankings through your SEO efforts?
Do you plan on paying for advertising?
There are so many questions you need to ask yourself before you can even start thinking about the word profit.
The approach you plan on taking is what you need to put a lot of focus on, when deciding on which niche to go with and for most people, your budget will always make that final decision.
When Should You Go With Your Passion?
I would say 99% of the time you should always go with something you are at the very least interested in.
I’ve seen a guy go into women’s clothing as their niche and have actually had it work.
Now I’ve seen a lot more people go into something without any knowledge of a niche simply because they were chasing the money that found themselves scratching their heads one week into their business.
As an online marketer, you always want to have some type of understanding of the products you will be throwing out there, so whether you are blogging, paying for ads, or even drop shipping, your passion will help you big time.
If you are on a budget and have little to no money to invest, you definitely want to go with your passion as I really don’t think you have a choice.
When Can You Go For Profit?
I almost never recommend anyone start out chasing a niche for the sole purpose of being able to profit from that niche.
Now if you plan on throwing out your site through some advertising and you know a little about certain products that offer higher commissions, you can definitely chase profit.
If you are a seasoned marketer that knows how everything works, then and only then do I believe that going for a profitable niche will be of your best interest.
Some may argue that this niche pays higher commissions compared to that niche but at the end of the day, a higher priced product sells a lot less than a no brainer $20 product that people are buying without even thinking.
Conclusion
Go with your passion.
I can tell you all the reasons why you should go with your passion and I can tell you all the reasons to chase dollar signs but in the end, your passion is what you want to follow.
“But John, there isn’t any money to be made in my passion”
There is money to be made in any niche possible and this site is a great example of that.
You see the little ads scattered on my site?
Those things pay me more than most of your day jobs will ever pay and I’m not saying that to brag either.
I’m simply showing you what a simple ad can do for you and how any niche can make you money.
So if someone tries to tell you to make sure that your niche is profitable, they are most likely trying to pitch you some other product or they just don’t know any better.
Passion will always beat profit.
I mean, do you think people will buy from you if they don’t trust you?
Passion fuels trust, and trust is earned through the feelings you are able to throw out there and not through your want to make more money.
Now you tell me, is profit really better than passion?
