Is Direct Sales Really For You? Take This Short Quiz and Find Out Now

Last Updated: August 30, 2018 //  by John

is-direct-sales-for-youI remember the days when I knew nothing about direct sales.

All I knew was that my siblings were involved with Amway and they mentioned all this jargon that surrounded their business in which I was completely clueless.

I wouldn’t say clueless because I knew that they had some products along with some stories about how so and so is a diamond and how they needed to make their PV (points volume).

The business was such a big part of their lives that one of my brothers even named their dog PV.

While all this is being shown to a kid like myself, little did I know that they were involved with some direct sales.

Well, What is Direct Sales?

Not like your traditional store that hosts a bunch of products for people to come and purchase, direct sales is more on the face to face style of business, from which is performed through catalogs, presentations, and the now popular popup parties.

Not so much on the multilevel marketing side of things as you don’t build a pyramid of customers under you but rather a solid one time commission on personal sales you make for specific products you sell.

From Vacuums, knives, cleaning products, and other crazy products, I have a serious love/hate relationship for all of them.

As a consumer, it’s really hard to resist these products especially with the fact that I am very much a fan of those As Seen on TV products.

Now when you have a direct selling guru at your door ready to demonstrate how sharp their knives are or how much dirt their vacuum can suck is taking things to another level.

With some selling tactics, these door to door salesmen make some good money just from one product alone simply because they are not priced like the products you will find at your favorite store.

There’s a lot of money in the industry but how do you know that this is something for you?

Here are a few short questions that might help you make the ultimate decision on whether or not you should dip your toes into some direct selling.

Hey, you might just be the perfect candidate for the job!

1.) Are You a Social Butterfly?

I wish I could tell you that this job is for anyone but it’s really not.

Remember that this job requires you to talk to people and not just talk but communicate in a way that

For those of you that don’t seem to have the mouth that can keep going for days, this might not be the right line of work for you.

There are jobs for shy people, so if you aren’t much of a people person, direct sales won’t fit you right.

2.) Can You Get Personal With Your Audience?

A lot of the money made in direct sales come because of a connection that is made with a soon to be customer.

By providing them a solution to their problems along with some experience, you are a lot more likely to close a deal with just that alone.

If you can see eye to eye with the person you are talking to, you can very well make a lot of people happy, which in turn will make you money.

Same thing goes if you are a blogger, writing for your audience would be necessary to engage and make those affiliate commissions.

Direct sales is no different.

3.) Are You Energetic?

Not only will you be doing some walking but you will have to talk your behind off for a good minute.

Energy is required physically and mentally as well.

Carry that enthusiasm wherever you go and people will naturally get drawn towards you and won’t have a problem pulling out that wallet.

I’ve seen all types of personalities and I always give into those that come with some type of excitement.

If you haven’t seen the video of Kenny Brooks, you might want to check it out.

This dude is the perfect example of what energy looks like.

4.) Are You Familiar With the Product You’re Selling?

You can get all the training you need on a product but if you don’t come off naturally to your potential customer, you won’t close the sale.

Having the knowledge and understanding what your product is all about will help you big time.

If you can’t answer some of the questions that will come your way, then you might want to find another job because this might not be for you.

If you have that perfect knife for them, show them why they need yours instead of the ones they already have.

I remember the Kirby people that used to come by my house and how their little samples blew me away.

I almost gave in until they told me how much it was going to cost.

Yikes!

5.) Are You in it JUST For the Money?

Not the real deal breaker but if you are just trying to make money, chances are higher that you won’t make any money, compared to someone who is truly passionate about helping others.

Helping people should always be put first before anything else, especially the money.

I get it, it’s your job and you need to make money but try to make that less of a priority.

People will see right through you and know that you are just trying to take their money rather than giving them a real solution to their problems.

So is Direct Sales For You?

In the end, you will know if this is the job for you.

Even though you have a shy personality, the knowledge you possess might just be enough for you to make some sales.

You know yourself better than anyone so I’m sure you will make a great decision.

Just remember that everyone involved with direct sales started somewhere and none of them knew that they were doing.

It’s going to take some hands on experience before you can count yourself out in the direct sales industry.

I say give it a try, gain some experience, and move on if it’s not for you.

Direct sales might not be for everyone but I think you should at least give it a try.

Who knows, you might just be a natural!
