I have used the phrase “it pays the bills” before but not in a way that most people would. I have too many friends that have been working at some dead end job and all they have to say is, “it pays the bills.” Today I want to show you how thinking like this will not only hurt your business, but also get you nowhere in life.
Any business or bright future will always start with you. It starts with the way you think, the way you act, and what you really want to get out of life. You already have the vehicles for a better future, now you just need to get your head in the game.
Don’t get me Wrong
Yes a job is necessary and we all need one, I got that. I don’t care if it’s serving burgers at Burger King or pumping gas at your local gas station, we all NEED a job. Jobs are a must and you will not get anywhere without one, at least if you want to make something of yourself.
I was once a soldier for TEN WHOLE YEARS and I knew there was a way out of that lifestyle. As much as I loved pounding the ground with my fellow scouts, I knew there was a better way.
I wanted more for my family and I wanted to be there a lot more, so being in the military and deploying most of the time wasn’t helping.
Not only was I a soldier, I had a full-time job and had to raise two kids on my own. That is what pushed me to find something that didn’t just pay the bills. If you are going to have the it just pays the bills mentality and not do something about it then that’s all you. No one can tell you what to do and you decide what you want to do.
Assistance Please
Some of you are probably working the system and have been on some kind of assistance for the past couple of years. This goes hand in hand with the it pays the bills mentality.
Some of you know that public assistance is only temporary and you should be trying to find a job, but things start to get a little comfy. You then forget about working and you just enjoy the freedom and all the freebies.
There is nothing wrong with getting assistance from the government, but what do you really want in life? Do you want to be living off of food stamps for the rest of your life? You are not getting any younger and you know tomorrow is going to be the same as it is today unless you take some action. Get up and make something happen!
The Routine
Some of you have probably never did any type of hard work in your life and don’t even know what work is. It’s okay, you were too buy trying to keep up with the Kardashians or something. Either you stay at your dead end job (if you even have one) or you can make something of yourself, but it’s totally up to you.
I love seeing people work hard but I hate it when it’s not going to benefit their life 5 or 10 years down the road. Everywhere you go you will see people busting their behinds trying to pay those bills and it will continue for many years to come, unless you break free.
You will never get anywhere if you don’t stop the bleeding my friend. This little life is so routine and is well within your comfort zone. You will keep doing this over and over and over again until you take a step back and really take a look at where your life is headed. You’ll be ready to retire and you won’t have anything to show for it, but maybe a little car or something. So much for the “it pays the bills” mentality.
Time for a Change
Most of us don’t like change. We are too comfortable living the life we live and we are totally fine with that. What do you think would happen if you decided to make a change in your life? Is that too much for you to handle? If there was one thing I learned as a businessman, it would be having to deal with change.
I once ran a used car business (not legally) and I would have the hardest time letting cars go because I got too attached. The whole idea was to get a car for cheap and resell it to make a profit, but that was something that didn’t work too well with me when I came across some really nice cars.
I ran into this awesome deal with a Mercedes Benz C Class and boy was it hard for me to let this car go. I got it tinted and detailed and then I had the hardest time letting go. Now that I really thought about it, I was just immature and I really didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life.
Although I loved the speed and the panoramic sunroof I had to let it go because that was the whole point of doing business right? That was the best decision I made doing that business and made me the most profit.
Do Not be afraid of change. Some changes are only for the best and if you want to make something of yourself then you are going to need to make a change. I know you’re used to that 9-5 of yours but know there are tons of opportunities out there and you will only benefit from them.
A Normal Workday for the Average Joe
Some of us don’t even realize that we’ve been doing the same exact thing for the past couple of years and that is how you end up with nothing. Here is what a regular day would look like for 99% of the working world.
- Get up
- Take a shower
- Have Breakfast
- Go to work
- Have lunch
- Get home
- Have dinner
- Watch TV
- Hit the sack
Wash, rinse, and repeat. This is what you will be doing for the coming years, unless you make something happen! Do not let life pass you by, it will come a lot faster than you think.
How I Made Things Happen
So I decided to make some changes in my life and the first one being to find a way to get rid of my job that wasn’t going to get me what I really wanted out of life. This job can’t get me the vacations I wanna take, it can’t get me the car I always wanted, and it definitely can’t give me the time I wanted with my family.
I then did my research and found out that you can make money online. Not only did I see people making money from the internet, but I saw that they were making a lot of it!
What better job, than something that pays a killing and will also give me more time with my kids right? Not to mention working straight out of my home!
I knew this was it, so I dove in head first. I got trained by the best, set up my first website, and the rest was history. I now make more money and I literally work in my boxers.
I am no longer selling cars, although I did make a lot of money doing it, and I am now a full-time online marketer. This is just one of the options but it is the most convenient until you get your feet off the ground. Make a change and you will see what else life has to offer. I hope you find it in you to make a difference in your life and you too can make something of yourself.
If you’re interested in making money from home, take a look at my #1 recommendation and you will see how real money is made. It is not MLM and it is not like any business you have ever seen in your life. Get in, and let me know what you think. Cheers!

Rob Hemphill
Another great post, John! I really like the way you have crafted this. If there are any skeptics out there about working online, this should give them that confidence shot to get up, do something and make it happen.
John
Thanks Rob!I would say about 80% of the working world are all skeptical about doing any business, but that’s okay. That’s what separates successful people from those that are content with their current lifestyle. Thanks for the comment Rob.

Hello, John
Awesome post and the first thing that caught my attention was “it pays the bills”, why? Because I hear this all the time from friends and family which I think is a term used by people who lack ambition in life. We are not here to pay the bills, but to live our lives to the max 🙂
There’s too much great information here for me to comment on, but I think that in order for people to get to where they want to go in life, they must develop a positive attitude, step out of their comfort zone and work hard in order to live an extraordinary life.

John
I totally agree with the comfort zone Neil and that is what most people can’t step out of. They are okay with what they have and are more than likely to try new things. The problem with this is that they will look back at their lives 20 years from now and realize that their whole life passed them by and they have been doing the same thing over and over again. I would respect someone that has failed many times than someone who hasn’t even tried once. Sad thing is, the ones not trying are always the ones talking. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Neil!
