Beach Body is a company that sells exercise and diet products that are marketed around, you guessed it, supplying customers with a “beach worthy body.”
The products themselves are growing in popularity, but the company has also attracted a reputation for giving fans of their stuff the opportunity to make a little bit of money selling it themselves.
That’s right, Beach Body is an MLM, meaning if you like what they are selling, you can get in on the action yourself with a small upfront investment.
MLMs like Beach Body offer people with an entrepreneurial spirit the opportunity to set their own hours and make money selling a product that they believe in.
Today we will be taking a close look at how Beach Body operates in order to determine if it is a good opportunity for you to make some money on your own terms.
First, let’s see what they have to offer.
The Products
Beach Body’s product line is somewhat diverse but naturally everything that they offer is directly related to fitness.
One thing that sets this organization apart form other similar MLMs is that in addition to selling individual products, they are also selling programs.
What are the Beachbody programs?
Essentially they are packages that are designed to help people lose weight over time.
From a sales point of view this is kind of nice because it means that once someone buys from you, you (at least hopefully) have a built-in repeat customer.
That isn’t necessarily the case if you are selling candy, toys, or Tupperware.
The products themselves include workout DVDs, shakes, supplements, and “coaching consultations,” from a qualified online instructor that encourages participants to engage in behaviors that are healthy to them.
It’s pretty standard of what you would expect from a company that specializes in weight loss products, right?
The programs themselves essentially consist of a combination of their DVDs, shakes, supplements, and coaching services.
The packages that they sell are actually somewhat more expensive than the typical offerings of MLMs (which from a commission perspective could be a good or bad thing).
Packages range between $145-245 and before even finding out Beachbody had this MLM type of business, I actually purchased Insanity for myself.
On the one hand, this is nice because if you are making lots of sales you can expect a pretty healthy influx of commission checks.
On the other hand, a lot of people aren’t necessarily willing to spend a couple hundred dollars on shakes.
One thing that will help a sales representative move product is the enthusiasm that many participants tend to display.
Part of the program encourages users to be social about their success at weight-loss.
In fact, if you have Twitter or Facebook, I would be willing to bet that you have even seen some of your friends posting online about their weight loss journey that happened all thanks to Beachbody.
The enthusiastic and active customer base both gives the products a recognition factor and it will also potentially make prospective customers a little bit more confident in the actual effectiveness of the products.
Of course, at the end of the day, how much product you move is ultimately going to depend on your skills in sales and most especially recruiting.
The Compensation Plan
The compensation rate for sales starts at a standard 25% on the retail side of things.
It’s a pretty decent rate, all things considered, and if you are selling products regularly, it should help you to establish at least a fairly decent stream of revenue.
You can earn additional income based on your participation.
Part of Beachbody’s business model is to get other people to sign up to be representatives.
The more “Coaches,” that you add to their roster, the more you can expect to make in bonuses.
You might look at that and say it sounds a little bit fishy, right?
After all, there have been plenty of other, less ethical businesses that have used the pyramid structure to get more customers and participating sales staff.
It’s natural, then to ask yourself: is Beach Body a pyramid scheme?
The answer is no.
While Beach Body does implement a pyramid structure of increasing its ranks the products, services, and payments themselves are all legitimate.
While you might not get wealthy working for Beachbody, it will not be because it is a scam.
So just how much can you expect to make from Beach Body?
Well, it depends entirely on how much success you are able to carve for yourself.
According to Beachbody themselves, in 2011 their highest earning coach made over one million dollars, while their lowest paid coach made nothing.
More realistically, you can expect to make something in between the two figures, though most coaches naturally do not make anywhere near one million dollars a year.
That’s very typical in this industry so of course it is really going to depend on your work ethic and most especially how good you are at recruiting.

Recruiting is not for everyone and I know how statistics can scare a lot of people, so that is definitely an option, and a great one at that.
How Much Does Beachbody Cost?
Finally, exactly how much can you pay to get started up with Beach Body?
Some of you might be scratching your heads right now, wondering what sort of job costs money to start?
Pretty much all MLMs.
You’ve got to spend money to make money and in this case, the initial fee is about $40, and then there is an additional fifteen dollars in fees that you will need to pay every couple of months.
You will also need to pay to reup your supply of product whenever the need presents itself but these are actually pretty good numbers as far as MLM’s are concerned.
Considering that plenty of other, similar companies have packages around $400-500, the forty dollar startup here is actually pretty appealing.
With a rate like that, it definitely makes it easy to justify giving Beach Body a try.

Conclusion
Is Beach Body for you?
Well, it’s hard to say.
There are definitely some pretty clear risks to the sort of lifestyle that companies like this require.
The short of it is that if you aren’t a good salesperson, you just aren’t going to make much money through Beachbody or any other MLM for that matter.
On the other hand, if you are confident in your ability to move product consistently, Beachbody may very well represent a good opportunity to increase your income and enjoy a schedule that is suited to your needs.
However, Beachbody is not some type of scam, so if you are looking to make some extra cash, this might be for you.
Beachbody is legit.
What I Really Think
When you are first introduced to an MLM things sound like the best thing ever and you almost immediately think that it is for you.
You end up paying all these monthly membership fees and eventually quitting due to the “lack of time” to build your business.
Whatever the excuse may be, I think a lot of us have gone down that same road before.
There aren’t many ways out of the rat race and that’s why a lot of people turn to MLM.
Thanks to the internet though, there is actually a way to make money online without having to play the whole recruiting game.
