Back to School Means Back to Business For The Work From Home World

August 10, 2017 //  by John

Summer is gone for some of us while others are waiting for the kids to get back into the swing of school things.

This was also a time for work at home parents to experience a lot of stagnant or even declining business related issues I’m certain.

Sure we love our kids to death but our businesses tend to take a hit as the kids begin the best break of their adolescent lives.

This means more time at the mall, waterparks, and whatever activities your summer schedule consisted of and I’m sure we all had a blast.

Now that all that is just about done, it’s time for the kids to get their heads back in the books as well as us entrepreneurs to get back on track.

Not to sound like I don’t want any time with my kids (because that’s all I do) but I am really looking forward to having my office back and really digging in and taking things to another level.

There are several things we need to understand before doing so and I thought I’d give you some tips within this blog post.

We all could use a hand in everything we do, so I hope this helps

Get Your Brain Back in the Game

We all get complacent even when the kids are at school but nothing is worse than having them home for summer.

Not only are we having to deal with them physically but a lot of our mental state is affected.

Along with the late nights and long days comes the wear on your body causing you to be a lot more tired than usual.

A lot of the time we won’t even notice all the way until summer is just about to end.

That’s life and it happens so don’t feel alone as it isn’t only you.

Now when you do actually have time to work, you’re most likely drained and can’t seem to focus no matter what you try to do.

Use this back to school time as a way for you to get your mind on track so you can focus on the work you neglected for the past 2 months or so.

Take a deep breath and let your brain relax and be ready for a lot of work to come.

Prepare Yourself Physically

Most of us tend to leave out our physical health being that we work from home and get to do what we want.

Leave this part out and you can expect your business to take more hits even after summer.

You probably didn’t have much time to do any actual physical training while the kids were home, so I suggest you set some time aside so you can build that energy which is required for people like you and me to function properly.

Exercise regularly and your mental state will work a lot better than you think.

There are many workout programs for your living room and setting aside 30 minutes of your day to run is beyond doable.

Leave the excuses for your competition and have that edge by doing some good old exercise.

This is crucial to your business, so take your face away from your computer and go and get your sweat on.

This will help you with your business, big time.

Less Distractions, More Time For Work

Not many “jobs” give you the excitement of working but I absolutely love everything about my so called “job” and I am very much looking forward to getting some work did.

You have a lot more time on your hands so there shouldn’t be any excuses as to why you can’t get anything done.

If you’re excited like me, you need to carry that momentum all the way through or you won’t break the mental break that summer brought.

I may have two kids heading back to school but I still have two babies at home that are still vying for my attention but that isn’t going to be an excuse either.

I need to understand that I now have more time and I just need to figure out how to use it wisely.

Or wait, I did great work before Summer so I just have to get back in the swing of things and time management will be a breeze.

I hope.

Time Management

We may have slept late for the past couple of months and I’m sure this is the reason a lot of us weren’t as productive as we wanted to be.

Getting the kids in bed early is a great way for you to either catch up on some sleep so you can wake up earlier to get things done or even get work done while the kids are asleep.

Either way, you should have more time for work.

This is what I do to get around the two babies that I have at home so if I can do it, so can you.

Managing your time is something you need to sit down and think about so don’t go trying to wing things or you won’t get anything done.

Set a Schedule

Before Summer came, we all had some type of schedule in place.

If you didn’t, now will be a great time to setup a schedule and ultimately stick to it.

Get a whiteboard if you don’t have one already and do me a favor.

Use the crap out of it.

Pick the best time for you to work and go with it.

If it means chopping up your work schedule then do what you have to do.

For me, blogging is my livelihood so my work is still a priority even if the people I know think I do nothing and make money online.

We all want to be parents of the year but we need a friendly reminder that we do work for a living and without it, we won’t have the time we have with our kids.

So set that schedule and make use of it.

Appreciate the Work From Home Luxuries

I remember my start in the online world and all the emotions that came with it.

Of course I was skeptical but confident enough to know that I could not just make money but also a living completely online.

I also had the great need to spend more time with my kids as well as be home a lot more, especially coming from a military background.

Now that all that skepticism is out the door and I am doing this whole “work from home” thing full-time, I still need to look back and appreciate the journey.

We also need to appreciate the fact that we get to do what we want with our time but also remember what it took to get us here in the first place.

Sometimes work can get the best of me so I need to step back and remember that I did this whole thing for my kids.

Just because school is back in session that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun.

We always have fun in my household and even if I have to get work done, I still make it a point to spend quality time with my kids daily.

I never take anything for granted though, so the same passion that drove me to where I am today, remains.

Not many people can say the same, so appreciate it and move on.

Remember Old Goals and Set New Ones

If you’re not setting goals, you’re wrong.

Sorry, I just wanted to pretend I was still in the Army but I didn’t mean it in a bad way.

All I’m saying is that goals are a huge part of anyone’s online success and they should be for you too unless of course you aren’t looking for online success.

Whether it’s personal, physical, or monetary, you should always have something to chase.

This is a great time to look over your goals to see where you stand and this is also a great time to set new ones, as I’m sure we’ve learned a lot form this little “break” we just had.

Remember that whiteboard I spoke of earlier?

These goals will go great with that so you can remind yourself every single day as to what you are chasing or you won’t ever get there.

Goals have helped me a lot in my start and they continue to help me maintain and grow my business daily.

I hope this post helps you in one way or another and I also hope that you are as excited as I am in getting our businesses to new heights.

Welcome back to school kiddos and welcome back to work fellow entrepreneurs!
