Blogging has truly been an amazing journey for me and my family and I couldn’t ask for a better line of work.
Things will always seem like an easy “job” to others but they really have no clue as to what happens behind the scenes.
As a parent, blogging can be the hardest thing to do if you don’t balance things and that is a huge reason as to why most mom/dad bloggers end up quitting.
Don’t do that.
Your blog is a real business and that is exactly how you need to treat it or you will do that.
Regardless if you are talking about makeup or how to build an online business, you need to treat it as such and that is really the only way to do it.
Too many bloggers come in with the wrong mentality and most especially the wrong training just to think that “it doesn’t work”.
For them at least.
Let me just say that I completely understand but I disagree with most outcomes.
As a parent blogger myself, I know how hard it is to get anything done but guess what?
I got it done and I get it done.
It just requires some thinking and a lot of taking action.
The Solution?
There is no one solution for life’s everyday mishaps but you have to figure something out.
I have taken many different approaches to things and they are the same things I used to get me to where I am today.
I’m sure they can help some of you who are struggling to keep your blog in tip top shape and help some of you who are probably just starting your first blog.
Here are some of the things I do to get work done.
1.) Assign Yourself the Graveyard Shift
I know that sounds pretty scary but remember that you are the boss.
I only say this so that you can get work done but I found that working when everyone is sleeping (not making nose) I get the most work done.
Not just work but some great quality work that you know will be great for your site.
For me, I wake up around 4 in the morning and that gives me enough time to get a solid blog post done before my little princess comes walking into my office to try and take over my computer.
When I first started blogging, I actually got up at 3am, so I have kind of adapted to my current lifestyle and 2-3 hours a day is all I need.
Of course I have some freelancers helping me out, so that is another reason.
So if you are just starting out, make the sacrifice and work when it is more convenient for everyone.
Never mind you, it’s about them.
Remember?
Power naps work great too, so don’t think you need that 10 hours of sleep you used to get before you had kids.
2.) Work Away From Home
Kind of contradicting to what people see but I do this for a living and if I can’t get any blog posts done, then you can bet that I will be begging my boss for my old job back.
Working from home is a great thing as a parent but it does come with its challenges and sometimes you have to do what you have to do.
For me, I work away from home at least three times a week.
Mind you, I do stay in a place where coffee shops are all a simple walk away and that is why I have so many different offices to choose from.
I pretty much designed it this way and I think you should do the same.
But yes, find some time out of the week to go and focus on your business.
There are offices that you can rent on a daily basis but certain coffee shops work great as long as you are able to focus.
Another thing I do to get me out of the house is I literally just get out of the house
3.) Separate Work From Fam Time
Take that laptop and slap your behind on the couch while the kids are watching Ryan play with his toys.
That might work but I definitely don’t recommend it.
I have done that and do it every now and then but don’t think that you are going to get some quality work done.
Maybe if you’re going to do something like answering comments that doesn’t take a lot of thought but don’t think about trying to be super dad.
If you’re going to spend time with the kids then do it.
If you’re going to work, then do that.
Don’t try to do both as it will only give you a headache.
Remember why you decided to blog in the first place and always, always give your family the time they deserve.
Conclusion
Never quit.
If you are going to be a blogger then be a blogger.
Get on some kind of schedule and stick to it.
Now if you haven’t started a blog, today will be a great time to do so.
And please don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t make money online because you can.
Other than that, get back to work and don’t you ever quit.
Thanks for reading and happy blogging!
