How to Sell Clothes Online – Get Paid For Old Threads

Last Updated: August 30, 2018 //  by John

There comes a time in everyone’s life when they must clean out their closet. For some, this can be therapeutic. For others, this can be a right disaster.

At the end of the day, however, if you come to that point where you not only need some fresh closet space but also want to make a little extra cash, perhaps selling some of your articles of clothing online is not such a bad idea.

After all the resale clothing industries happen to make over 16 billion in revenue a year so what is keeping you from getting in on the action?

Instagram = Insta-Money!

While most people are fine posting their food and silly cat faces on Instagram there is a swiftly growing number of the population that is actually starting to resell their old clothing via this popular social media site. The hashtag #shopmycloset has become a haven for those seeking to purchase and sell second-hand outfits.

Millions of people have already participated in this new wave trend and are using the comments as a bidding area the likes of which would make even eBay a bit jealous.

All these movers and shakers need do is post pictures of their gently used clothes and accessories and sit back and wait for the highest bid. No muss and no fuss.

Name Brand Products at Off Brand Prices

This may seem better for the buyer than the seller but if you happen to have some good quality high priced items laying around that you do not plan on using anytime soon you still may be able to make a buck or two.

The good thing about high fashion is that it doesn’t have to make you go broke. By offering these gently used gems you can make up to 4 grand a year!

They don’t have to be brand new and could even b second hand themselves. All it takes is a quick search for an MK bag or something from Prada and you could find yourself with a little extra to pay rent and bills.

If you are even so much as gifted something along of lines of Chanel or Coach you should not be afraid to check out sites such as snobswap.com and see what treasure you can discover…or sell.

Another similar site is therealdeal.com. This particular site keeps users anonymous and promises up to $20,000 sales if you play your cards just right.

Even on the low end of a sale, it can land you at least a couple of hundred for something you likely are not using anyway, so why not give it a try?

For the Busy Bee

Sometimes you just don’t have time. That is exactly what people over at sites such as liketwice.com and ThredUp had in mind when they started their company.

Basically, all you have to do is post what you have and mail it out and they take care of the rest. With Twice once your item is received it will be sorted and an offered given to you within a matter of days.

The same can be said for ThredUP which specializes in children’s clothing and is designed specifically with busy parents in mind.

While Mom and Dad watch their little twigs grown to trees and thus OUT grow their old outfits, ThredUp provides a lucrative alternative to just tossing your old clothes in the garbage.

While sites such as Twice may focus on more adult sized clothing, it’s nice to know that people like the ones over at ThredUp have given parents some options as to what to do with the kids outgrown garments. Unlike a lot of resale sites, however, Twice has a large array of men’s clothing to choose from as well.

It’s not just ladies looking to unload some closet space anymore, gentlemen, so don’t kid yourself. That high school jersey hasn’t fit in years and we all know it. Which brings us to our next section.

The Men’s Section of Online Resale (Not Just for Ladies Anymore)

While it is true that most men are just jeans and t-shirt kind of dudes there is a quickly growing number of fashion sensible men looking to either find a bargain online or perhaps rid their work of some old unwanted overalls.

Grailed.com is one such particular site that has been getting quite a bit of attention as of late. Catering exclusively towards men, Grailed can bring in some major dollars if you are looking to redo your masculine swag and make a bit of a profit in the process.

Grailed.com has everything from casual hoodies to name brand expensive items so no matter what you have to spare you are likely to find a buyer to two on this quickly growing site.

This site really gives you a multitude of men’s options unlike Twice (which does have a vast men’s section but can sometimes still be lacking) which caters more towards women. If you are looking for real men’s duds to unload you won’t have to look much further.

Shopping Online Versus Shopping in Stores

While shopping in stores does have advantages (for example, trying something on to see how it fits you right then and there) there is something to be said for online trading.

This not so new trend has been making millions of people money since the very dawn of the internet and does not appear to be going away anytime soon.

By far the best part of selling online is the fact that you can unload entire truckloads of items at the click of a button and barely have to lift a finger.

The absolute most effort you will have to put in is possibly putting your unwanted clothing into bags and mailing them away. That’s it.

Unless of course you take on something like affiliate marketing, which is nothing more than selling other people’s products to gain a commission in the process.

This is by far one of the best business models out there. Without having to own a product or deal with any type of shipping, you would be crazy NOT to give this a try.

Want to learn more about Affiliate Marketing?

So, whether you want to clean your closet out completely or just get rid of a few things, you no longer have to go through the trouble of organizing garage sales and/or taking heavy bags of clothing down to the local resell shop in hopes you make a penny.

This is the future of resale, folks. Get busy clicking or get busy losing money.

Happy hunting!
