5 Jobs For Teenagers That Don’t Suck

Ah, the teens years. Old enough to know better, still too young to care.

You’ve just turned 16, you want to get out there and make some money, but where does a young person eager to make a little bit of a living start? If you answered anything else besides “my parents wallet” you are already on to a good start.

Getting a job as a teen is not easy.

Chances are, depending where you live, there could be potentially dozens of other people just like you out for the same position. But that’s even considering you FIND a job.

Let’s face it, if you live in a small town, your choices may be limited.

You may be asking “Where do you even start?” If you’ve never done this kind of thing before there is a good chance you could be hitting the pavement to no avail in search of the elusive paycheck. What is a kid to do? Well, look no further, my young friend.

Once again, the internet has saved your day.

First, if you are looking for a summer job, a camp counselor is ideal.

Let’s face it, you’re getting paid to spend time outside AND away from the parental units for a few weeks. Not only that but from a professional level, this is THE foundation for good, solid career building.

You will be given leadership roles, responsibility, you’ll be well versed in communication and conflict resolution; the list goes on and on. Everything you learn here will be not only a valuable asset to your teens but will be applied to the rest of your life as well.

But, let’s be real, what if camping isn’t exactly your thing? Maybe you like the outdoors, but the thought of being in charge of dozens of screaming kids crying for Mommy makes you just a bit squeamish.

Well, how about a golf caddy?

Even if you are in just a LITTLE bit of shape, all you have to do is carry a few golf clubs around for a few hours out of your day and you’re making $50 to $100!

And that’s not including tips!

Now, you would have to have at least a basic understanding of the game and the ability to carry fairly heavy clubs for extended periods of time in sometimes boiling heat, but for the amount of pay vs. the amount of work you put it, it is totally worth it.

Don’t like the thought of camp OR heavy lifting, but still want to spend some time outside?

How about getting paid to help people and do good things while just chilling poolside?

Yes, it will actually be work, and NOT just on your sun tan, but being a lifeguard can be fun, rewarding, and a great first-time job. I’m not going to lie, there will be plenty of classes and certifications that you will have to obtain, but once you do, it will all be worth it.

This job will definitely make your smarter, better prepared, and overall, not an incredible human been, but an amazing potential employee for a company looking for a responsible young adult in the near future. And you may ask “But, what if I’m looking to go year round and not just summer?”

That’s the wonderful thing about swimming pools. Not all of them are outdoors.

Looking to get a bit creative and/or cleanly?

Try landscaping and/or housekeeping! These two jobs can be separate or one in the same, depending on the client, but either/or can be a great first-time job.

Let’s face it, you probably already do chores around your own home, why not do the same for some extra cash for someone else?

Whether you prefer mowing lawns or cleaning tables, both of these not only benefit you as a teen looking to make a living but highly beneficial to those in need as well. This is a service everyone could use a little help on, so your number of job possibilities are potentially endless.

So, what if you want to spend more time indoors then?

Do you enjoy the mall?

Perhaps going out to eat? Well, maybe retail or food industry would be perfect for you.

These jobs are basically designed for an active and sociable teen on the go wanting to make a few extra bucks. With a variety of jobs ranging from stocking to cashier or busboy to waiter, your options on both spectrums are limitless. And what’s great is these particular jobs range anywhere from minimum wage up to $13 an hour.

If you’ve got some extra time nights and weekends, both of these are relatively easy to obtain and if you’re serious and a hard worker, easy enough to get promoted.

And who knows…if you start right now and if all goes well, you could be the only manager of a grocery store or fast food restaurant in your graduating class!

Finally, let’s take a look at touring.

There is at least one subject that you excel at, so why not share that with others. Chances are, if you have a natural talent, you probably already have a passion. What better way to use that passion, than to show someone else how amazing that particular subject can be!

Everywhere from summer school to private lessons can use a little help. You could be that help. And for $15 an hour starting out, you could be helping your wallet in the process.

Make Money With Your Passion

This is the absolute best way to make money, and not just for teens either. I am a full-grown man and I make my living online, talking about things I enjoy, like my kids.

I don’t care if you have an interest for photography or being healthy, there is some money to be made, all from the comfort of your home.

The best part about this, is that you don’t need to go through an interview and there’s not age requirement!

It is going to take some learning before you do some earning, but believe me, you’ll absolutely love this  “J-O-B”!

Now, these are just a few different ways to make money as a teen.

There are tons of opportunities out there if you know where to look. Don’t be afraid to ask your friends and neighbors. Of course, stay safe, do not get caught up in something you are not absolutely 100% comfortable with, and above all else, TALK TO YOUR PARENTS!

Believe me, they have been through a lot and know FAR more than you think they do.

So go on, get out there, make a resume and turn in some applications. Your life is just barely beginning. Why not start it out with a smile on your face and some cash in your coin purse.
