In this day and age sometimes retirement is not all it is cracked up to be. With the economy in the state that it is in and with no immediate signs of change anytime soon more often than not, retired people are logging on to make a living.
There are many benefits to continuing working after retirement such as adding to your social security as well as just having that little extra income.
Or maybe you want to start your own small business but just need a little extra money to make a decent down payment?
But what if you would rather spend your post-career days at home rather than working part time as a bagger at your local grocery store next to some hot shot 16 year old?
Fortunately, in this day and age, late retirement also comes with the perks of the technology that is the internet. And, with just a bit of know-how, even a retiree can make a decent living via their home computer right in the comfort of their own living room.
Teach and/or Tutor
If you have reached the age of retirement you probably have a load of experience under your belt.
This means people are willing to pay you to be a mentor or coach in your chosen field or any number of basic grade school courses.
You can do anything from giving advice on Twitter to having a private one on one video sessions via Skype with people anywhere in the world.
Even people half way across the globe can personally seek you out for your knowledge and pay you good money to share your experience no matter what job you have just retired from.
Having even the slightest bit of expertise in the basics of education could set someone on the right path and you could be the person for the job.
Everyone has to start from the bottom and you may just be the person they look up to. Not only can you make money, but you could make a real difference in someone’s life as well.
Buying and Selling Online
A hard truth we all have to face eventually in our lives is just how much stuff we have accumulated through the years.
Odds are we all have a garage full of things we never use that we just simply do not know how to part with.
In reality, all those old things you have piled up out in the shed could actually be worth a pretty penny. Sites like Craigslist and Ebay offer you a unique chance of connecting with people everywhere who may just be looking to buy the exact thing you have been itching to get rid of.
Remember, you don’t have to only have expensive antiques to make some money. Even an old lamp could fetch a dime if it’s popular enough.
Try just posting some of the things you own online and see who is interested and how much they are willing to spend. And it doesn’t have to end there. Once you are in the world of internet trading you have a multitude of options!
You’d be surprised what you can make by just doing a little spring cleaning.
Writing and Editing
If you have a way with words you may have a way of earning cash as well. There is a whole host of magazines, newspapers, even websites that are looking for new content every day.
Sites such as Yahoo! Voice and Writerfind.com can give you a list of publications looking for writers just like you to fill their pages.
Having trouble coming up with an original idea to write about?
If you still want to fulfill your dream of working with publications you can also make good money in editing.
There is an almost strange sense of honor in helping someone perfect their craft. Editing, much like mentoring, can have the potential to help further someone’s career and give them the guidance they need to succeed. After all, even your favorite author had to start somewhere.
Virtual Customer Equals Virtual Customer Service
If you like things more on the analog side there are still plenty of jobs available that involve the internet but still allow you to use your people skills.
Often times companies will employee online virtual customer service reps to deal with in-house situations they are otherwise unable to attend to.
This means from the comfort of your home, you can help a company connect more to its clientele without ever having to go into any stuffy office.
As a semi-retiree it is a nice bonus that you can make your own hours working anywhere from 20 to sometimes 40 hours a week if one were so inclined.
You will usually need at least a landline to accompany your internet usage, but often times a company is willing to work around mobile phone usage as well.
This is one of the few actual set based pay jobs ranging anywhere from 8 – 15 dollars and hours so you are sure to get your money’s worth of your time.
Living the Dream, Living the Future
Just because you are retired from your career does not mean you are retired from life. With more and more people every day getting at least part-time jobs to supplement their retirement plans working from home online seems like a dream come true.
The truth is you may not make as much as you did in your previous career and it may take you some time to make anything substantial, however, if you stick to it you can make a relatively good living working just with your computer from a home office.
Everyone deserves a chance at making a living and just because you may be out of the so-called “rat race” doesn’t mean you are out of the world.
We spend our entire lives planning for the future. What are you going to do now that the future is now?
At 32 years young, I work from home full-time and retirement is not in my agenda. I took the not so traditional route and I built my own online business when I was 30. Best decision ever!
