There comes a point in most blogger’s careers where the demand for solid blog posts is too high for you to keep up or you just make a good income that you can afford to outsource some of the work load.
Then there are some of you who might just be starting a blog to make money, you understand the concept of how money is made through it but you just don’t think your writing is good enough.
Whatever the case may be, you probably need a writer.
And not just any writer but one that can at the very least meet the standard that you’ve set, which has gotten you this far in your life.
I’ve been down this road before and I know how hard it is to find a decent writer and it can end up costing you a lot of money or squashing the whole idea.
With the many problems that come with such a task, I hope to help you overcome this obstacle so that you too can find a writer that suits your needs.
Understanding Writers
Starting out can be the most confusing part of your journey to finding a solid writer.
You will probably find yourself on Fiverr.com thanks to their $5 deals but it will have you scratching your head after trying some of the writers on there.
Their resume can sound the greatest and even their samples will have you pulling out your credit card to pay them even before they start but please don’t do that.
Not to say that there aren’t any good ones on there but the price you pay is usually what will decide on the type of writer you get.
You Get What You Pay For
This is true and it is very much applied to outsourcing writers online.
I have gone the $5 route for a really long time, in hopes that I would eventually find one that at least puts out decent content.
I have come to the conclusion that it actually does not exist.
Writers know the going rates and unlike 2010 where you can find good writers for a very low price, you really have to pay if you want good, quality content.
$10 was a thing in 2015 but even that was hard to find a decent writer.
Not to say that it doesn’t exist but if you are looking for quality work and content that will get you ranked in the search engines, then expect to pay more than $10.
I would say go with your budget but you don’t want to settle for some mediocre content.
Your Budget
When looking for a writer, you need to see where you stand financially.
This does not refer to paying your writer but how much money you actually have to invest.
Let me break it down a little better for you.
So if you know the going rate for a writer is around $15, you need to work with that.
Forget about trying to pay $10 for work that isn’t at least fair or it will only hurt you.
If your budget is $200 for the month, don’t worry about getting 20 articles at $10 and work around getting less as you never want to sacrifice quantity for quality.
Spread those 13 or so articles out and fill the gaps with your content.
Choosing Platforms
I mentioned Fiverr earlier, but I would never recommend you get blog posts done on there.
Use that site for headers and other things but don’t get any form of writing done there.
Even $10 articles are not going to be of quality, unless you find that diamond in the rough.
Then if it is perfect, you can probably bet that it was just copied from another site, which is going to impact your overall site negatively.
I’m sure you don’t feel like paying to get your site messed up, so don’t ever settle for cheap quality work
For me, there were only two sites that had the best selection and they were UpWork and Onlinejobs.ph.
The overall user experience on these sites were a lot better than most I’ve tried.
Upwork is probably a better option for those of you who don’t have much money to invest, as they only take a small fee from every milestone.
Onlinejobs.ph charges around $49/month and you still have to pay anyone you hire.
Do keep in mind that these freelancers are from the Philippines.
I say that because most people will think that you aren’t going to get quality work because they don’t speak English but you will be surprised.
On top of some of them having actual English majors, these are some of the most hardest working freelancers that I have ever come across.
Just like everything else out there, you do get what you pay for.
Prices range from $5 – $50 and you can find good work for about $12 per 1k words.
What I Recommend
Finding a writer is no easy task.
Now if you can understand that your blog is an actual business, you know that investing is pretty much necessary as there is only one of you.
If you run an established blog that gets traffic, a great option is to advertise an opening for writers.
When responding to questions on there, you can always let your readers know that you are actually looking for a writer and you will get some clients that way.
At the end of the day, you really do get what you pay for and it isn’t going to change.
If you are looking to invest in a writer, pay the price that coincides with the work you want done.
If you want crappy work, Fiverr is where you can go to find that.
Other than that, I do recommend you invest a good amount in a writer (or two) and you won’t regret it.
Keep an open eye on duplicate content because most cheap writers will try to cover things up.
Simple tools like Copyscape can help you with that, so don’t be lazy and really check on the content you are paying for as I’m sure you don’t want to pay for your site to be on Google’s bad side.
