Keyword stuffing is a big mistake by most online marketers and is something that can be fixed almost immediately. Keyword stuffing is a bad habit that can develop into a problem if it’s not corrected.
Keywords are a big part of online marketing and is something that most online marketers really have no clue about. I use the crap out of Jaaxy for all my keyword research and it has helped me tremendously with my online business. There is one thing that you might not know you’re doing, but you are probably doing it. Online marketers refer to this little thing as “keyword stuffing”.
What is Keyword Stuffing?
You can probably guess what keyword stuffing is, just by the way it sounds. Keyword stuffing is basically using a targeted keyword too many times in a post or page of a website. You are probably a stuffer but you just don’t know it yet.
A lot of the time, online marketers and bloggers try to put so many keywords into one post which makes it sound really unnatural. Just like your readers, Google and other search engines don’t like to read articles that sound like a robot wrote them. Keyword stuffing is something that you would get from an article that was created by some type of article spinning software.
Spinning of articles are a great way to get you penalized by Google and you know what happens when you get penalized. You lose rankings, which in turn leads to lack of sales. This is when you as an online marketer will start to get discouraged and will start to slack with your online business. This of course will ultimately lead to you quitting online.
Keywords, Don’t Underuse them and don’t Overuse them
Did that confuse you? Most people tend to either overuse or underuse keywords and they don’t even know it. For most of your posts, you probably underuse them, but I find myself overusing them when it comes to talking about a specific product.
Overusing keywords not only sounds like crap but it will lose your reader’s attention in a heartbeat. Let your writing flow and try not to focus on keywords too much. Better yet, don’t even worry about them until you’re done with your post.
After your post is complete, then you can go back and make any adjustments to your post, so that you can have a good keyword density throughout your post.
When I write a post with a keyword that has more than one word in it, I use it as an acronym until I am just about done with my post. Like the phrase “internet marketing”, as an online marketer, you would shorten that by simply using “IM”. Once you’re dong writing out your post, you can then go back and add as many keywords to your post as NEEDED.
Overusing Keywords = Keyword Stuffing
When you talk about products, it is very, very easy to “keyword stuff” your posts. Being that you are trying to explain a product almost makes it impossible not to use it in a sentence.
Ex: Internet marketing is a great way to make money on the internet. If it wasn’t for Internet Marketing, I don’t know what I would do. Internet Marketing can do the same for you, if you started Internet Marketing today.
Obviously, Internet Marketing was my keyword of choice, and I overused it in just one paragraph. How did that sound to you? It sounded like a bunch of horse doo doo is what that sounded like, now let’s get this problem fixed.
A Balanced Diet
Just like a turkey that’s overstuffed, you will need something to keep it balanced, like a little more gravy, or a little more turkey. In the online marketing world, you would need to add more content to fix an overstuffed turkey.
Finding the right balance is one thing, and a good, well written article is another. The best fix for this, and is something that you can do with a little practice, is writing naturally. Most online marketers that worry about keywords too much, end up developing bad habits and start to write articles that aren’t worth a penny.
In Online marketing, quality will always out do quantity. Yeah you may get more traffic with a boatload of content, but will your articles convert? Probably not. The best way to get the best of both worlds is to balance everything. This will definitely get traffic and make sales.
Save the Stuffing for the Turkey
Now that you have learned a thing or two about keyword stuffing, you should get back to work and start un-stuffing your posts. This should help your online marketing efforts big time!
Remember what I said about quantity, but just have the whole keyword stuffing concept in your back pocket so you can break that bad habit. Now you can have a happy turkey instead of a stuffed one.
I hope you found this article to be helpful to you and your online business. Please leave a comment and let me know what you think and share it with others so that they can be aware of this minor but critical mistake that most online marketers do. Cheers!
