Swagbucks is an online reward program, which most people are starting to question if this is some type of scam. Others question if it’s worth the time to try and get these “Swagbucks” which can not be exchanged for cash.
Just like everyone else, I have my OPINION on this program and I would like to add my $.02. Being an online marketer, I know exactly what this program is about so I want you to have a better understanding so you can figure out if it’s even worth your time.
What is Swagbucks?
Swagbucks is a program that rewards you for doing things that you are already doing online, like shopping and searching for things. There are other ways to get these points, which you will be rewarded in the form of a gift card. It is ran off of Bing’s search engine so you won’t be getting the same results as you would with Google.
What it’s Going to Cost You
It is completely free to join Swagbucks, no strings attached. You will not ever need to put in any credit card information or use a Paypal account because your points cannot be cashed out.
Pros & Cons
Just like everything else out there, nothing is perfect. I have compiled a couple of key things that I think make Swagbucks good and also bad.
- Completely free to join
- Offers gift cards for well known online retailers
- Rewards for programs you are already using
- Points are worth something
- Time consuming
- Gift cards are limited
- You don’t earn points for every search
Earning Swagbucks Points
There are several ways to earn points and doing a search (like you would in Google) is one of them. You don’t earn much, but it does add up.
You can also use the other ways, that are shown on your homepage, which is by filling out surveys, using coupons, and playing games. Like I stated earlier, you earn these points for doing things you are already doing.
With these points, you can redeem them at the “Swag store” which you can exchange for prizes. There is no cash value, but they do come in the form of a gift card from some sites that you probably shop on, like Amazon and Target to name a few.
What Points are Worth
Every 100 Swagbuck is worth about $1. So if you want an Amazon gift card that’s worth $5, you would need to get 500 Swagbucks. It’s not always worth the same value, but most of the time it’s a 100/$1 ratio.
How Swagbucks Makes Money
So you’re probably wondering, how in the world do these guys even make their money? It is a very simple concept and these guys are killing it!
First of all, this is a very crafty idea and I gotta give props to these guys for doing an outstanding job. For now, I’ll just sit here and watch these guys run this site.
Here’s how it works. Every time you do a search, purchase something, or fill out some type of survey, these guys are getting paid (cash). This is all things that are involved with this thing called affiliate marketing, which is a great way to make money online.
The owners of this company have done a great job of using the internet to their advantage and have done this by giving back. I do suggest you try to do some affiliate marketing, as that is exactly how I make my income.
Is it Worth it?
As an online marketer, I love the concept behind Swagbucks. At least on the owner’s side of things. However, as a consumer this type of stuff is not really worth it.
If you really break things down, you would be making about $.70/hr, which is not very profitable. Not only is it not worth cash, but it will take you some time to build up your points. Then it you can only get a gift card, which takes time to get and you will also be limited as well.
In the end it is totally up to you and if you are a straight up consumer, this might be some type of new hobby you can take on. If you would like to make more than just points, you really need to try affiliate marketing.
I hope you have learned a thing or two from this Swagbucks review and hopefully you know that this is definitely not a scam but an awesome idea. I would like to know what you think, so please leave your thoughts below and let me know what you think of Swagbucks. Cheers!
